Spa Spillover Issues...

Hi - love these forums! Total pool noobie here - never owned a pool before. We recently moved into a house that has a salt IG pool/spa combo with the spa spillover into the pool. We had a heater put on this past December. Things were great.

Recently, we are having an issue with our spa spillover pressure. It recently went from a perfectly fine flow to more of a trickle. I am sure it is something with one of the valves or automatic settings... The problem is I have no clue what valve does what or how to properly adjust them. I have posted some pictures below of the setup. I've gone through the ecommand configuration and tried different things (enabling spa spillover, setting it to pool and spa, etc.), but I'm fairly sure it has to do something with the valves. Grandfather says the bottom right manual valve controls the vacuum? Unsure what bottom left manual valve does.

Welcome to TFP.. a great place to find the answers to all your "why does it just trickle" questions..

While it could be a valve issue, the most logical problem is that your filter is dirty...

What is your filter pressure and when was the last time you backwashed it???

Best thing is to get a pool company to come and show you. Hard to tell from a 2D picture. My guess is the front right is your suction from pool and spa with automated valve. Switch to turn on spa? That should go to filter next and then through the system. Output appears to be front center. I assume the pump on the left is your pool cleaner. With a sand filter you should have a backwash output straight to the drain or a hose at least. You need that to clean filter.

Jim - that was it... had to backwash it. Thank you! How often do we need to flush it? From what I've read... once a week.

We try to do things based upon "facts" and not dates...

With your filter clean (Just backwashed) note what the filter pressure gauge reads... When the pressure gauge reading increases by about 25 or 30% then you should backwash.. This could be one day if you have algae, or months if you use the TFP pool care process...

Your pool water looks awful green to me.. Could just be the lighting or picture, but if it is green that means you have algae which can quickly fill up a filter...

Let us know if it is green and we can get you pointed in the right direction... based upon facts and not pool $tore myths about how only Magic chemicals can clear your pool..

Some pool store chemicals can also turn your pool green, so if you have added anything in the last few days, please tell us what and how much..
