Riverside, CA - Backyard Overhaul

You should grind them up and use them as a low calorie coffee “creamer” .... the fact that the clay tile material has trace amounts of lead in it shouldn’t be of any concern

...worked as a roofer years ago... finished the job up top and boss says to go down and clean up... so I'm picking up all the bits... ... Lady walks by with two kids... one kid says "Mommy, what's that man doing?"... woman looks me up and down, thinks about it, and says... "community service."

Tile was delivered this morning and Wanger and I knocked it out! It was too dark for pictures at the end though.

I think all the abuse I put my body through is catching up to me :(. I'm gonna be hurting for a while after this.

I took this picture when we broke for lunch... Very pleased with the progress. This is 1250 sq ft of tile.

What do you do next?

Kim:kim:

I need to get that fireplace and pergola going. Friday I have to give a bid on a commercial pool looking to get AquaBright - it will be the biggest pool I've done to date if it works out. That day will pretty much be shot.

The homeowner added a TV under the patio so now there's a whole new mess of cables for me to run before the ceiling can get hung. I'm using a new product made by National Gypsum called EXP Extreme. Its basically a fiberglass faced drywall sheet designed to handle indirect moisture exposure and be sag resistant. I used a similar product on my own patio that I have been very pleased with its performance and decided to go the same route on this project.

Every ceiling that I've stuccoed has had issues with cracks and I really don't think its avoidable. Even with expansion joints all over the place it still ends up cracking.

I'll be installing crown molding on this project unbeknownst to the homeowners...it looks too good not to do and I sure like when things look good

Brian,

I thought you said this was your last project???

Jim R.

Not until he AquaBright's my pool....I just have to figure out how to drug him and keep him sedated long enough for the 7 hours drive to Tucson. I have a Bic lighter and a palette of AquaNet Hairspray he can use as the torch. I'll hand-cast the aquabright material against the plaster while he tries to shoot it with the hairspray flamethrower ...

I have to continue installing AquaBright until I find a buyer. That was a significant investment that would make poor financial sense to walk away from...I've had a couple of people interested but no one has bit so far.

My neighbor stopped by over the weekend (I did his pool/patio pictured below) and hes talking about building a 2400 sq ft detached garage. I'm not sure I can turn that down, especially since its walking distance from my house...I told him I'd have something drawn up today and I'll post it once it's done.

I have another garage (3250 sq ft) that I did the plans and foundation over a year ago. It has sat stagnant this whole time until I got the call that he'd like me to frame it in a couple months :brickwall:. This one is across the street from me

Here is that monster:

There was a guy on here that said there was an AquaBright installer in Tuscon

I think he said they charge $11/SF

Close - Phoenix. They come down from Phoenix and probably charge a travel fee on top of the $11/sq ft

No one local does it. Mentioned it to a plasterer once and the guy said it isn’t worth his time. As you say, you can’t compete against cheap plaster in the southwest and crews that can bang out 3 plaster jobs per day.

Just waiting on some cables to arrive so I can run them before the lid and lath go up.

I'm thinking I'll get this inspected next week and then get the beast framed.

The homeowners want the beam tails curved :brickwall:. It will probably take an entire day and 10 blades just to cut the radiuses... But she'll be pretty

Good Lord, that’s a lot of covered patio!! I think there’s more square footage than the actual house...

Make your Wanger grind that tail...I’m sure he’s good enough at it ....
