Plaster and Aquabright Comparison

I'm intrigued by the thought of an inert option. I'm going to need a resurface, technically this year.. but financially 2 years.?

I'd hope this is something the manufacturer is testing. I'd think small scale would suffice but I'm not sure how you'd test it under like conditions.

We have expansive black clay soil here too. My PB/neighbor says that the gunite will flex and the plaster will crack. We've got 4 cracks in the plaster now. One from 2012 that leaked and the rest didn't. All were fixed with Pool Putty that cures underwater. The one from 2012 hasn't leaked since then. We got two cracks right away and then added a Mister Landscape misting system from Lowes around the pool to maintain continuous moisture levels. The movement slowed dramatically. There is no evidence that the gunite has cracked.

I am keenly interested in Aquabright for my pool as well. I am even more keenly interested in offering Brian an all expenses paid Texas bbq vacay to Aquabright my pool. I am far more interested in somebody who does a great job than I am in saving a few bucks. Or even a few thousand for that matter.

He can pick me up along the way so that I can make sure you know what you're doing with that smoker....oh, and I can be second man on the hose ;)

I dont think I did, however I read the article posted above and that brought me to thinking that the AB might hold up but not underneath. I have a few cracks too, but I dont have much longer on my existing surface. It's the scenario that Pooldv mentioned that I'd like to avoid.

Nothing like a new car and getting a dent or scratch in the first few months.

Plan! Y'all might have to chop some wood or something. :)

Yeah, it was slightly annoying having a crack in the plaster leaking water in the first 6 months. But, whateva, you can't stop it. We love our pool!

Plaster delaminates when a crack forms and water enters the voids between the plaster and Gunite. Before the AquaBright is applied, the whole shell should be checked for hollow spots and it any are found, chip them out and patch them.

Now supposed you have a hollow spot that was missed and was coated. Once the pool is filled the water will exert pressure evenly in all directions and hold that section in place. Since the AquaBright is waterproof, I don't see how any more damage can be done since no water can infiltrate and do more damage.

I think I have that exact scenario with my current plaster. There's blistering, and under the blisters it looks like there is a V shaped gouge. (possible bad repair?)

So.. what I believe has happened is what you described. Maybe not, but who knows.

+1
So far (24 hrs  ) I'm very happy with AquaBright but less than thrilled with my installer. It's pretty clear that Brian takes great pride in his work. Maybe he could open an office in Texas and another in Florida??

Re: Plaster and EcoFinish AquaBright Comparison

I asked a question about resurfacing options in another thread, and I was referred to this post by Brian. Yes, there is only 1 installer down here in S Florida in Coconut Creek. I live 70 miles south or so, so he won't be willing to come down this far.
This surface looks interesting.

Wow. Our AB installer travels to different states! He recently returned from a project that's over 6 hours away. What's 70 miles? Have you asked?
