It only takes 15-30 minutes before chlorine and MA to mix in pool. You don't need to wait that long to test. Only thing you need to wait for is stabilizer

I agree. I was having my pool store double check my numbers. I would say it was 50 they would say 35. My cc would be zero they would say -1.2. I dont understand how it would be a negative number. My fc would say 7, theres would say 2.
And they say I shouldnt let my fc be higher than 3!
And they also told me my alkalinity was zero when my test had said 120....
Soooo....
Also about the hardness level.. there is no way to fix your water from bein too hard from what I can find. I think I read reverse osmosis.. or somethig like that... I have hard water. There is nothing I can do about that.

Well that is not what im finding in my experience. So thats odd.
If I tested my ph an hour after I add muriatic it will still read high. But if I wait till evening or morning depending on when I added it, I will see a decline. The first time I added it. I ended up having too low ph cuz I was only waiting two hours between doses.
And my chlorine is the same.if I test an hour after, hours later it will most likely be a little higher.

Okay full stop please. We are going to take a min and get some of this sorted out. We are going to start over just like nothing has been posted so far. Everyone has tried and done a good job so far. We just need to get it on a straight line to get it done.

Please run a FULL set of tests. Make sure the pump has been on for at least 30 mins before you test please. Stick your bottle or whatever you are using to collect the water at least elbow deep into the pool.
I want you to also take a pic of the pool looking down at the steps so I can see what you are dealing with.
I will keep an eye out for your answers.

Ugh! I had to turn my pump off today.
It is leaking near the metal ring and it was too hot with a louder than Usual noise.
My repair guy is swamped cuz of all the rain,but they will let me know when he can come out.
The last reading was the most recent. And I did sit down and took my time to get the readings. As of that moment all my numbers are good.
I have to figure out how to take a picutre on here. Ill be back when I get it

Its raining again. Im glad because I had to backwash last night so my water level was low. Im going to go ahead and add 4 cups of chlorine. Its suppose to rain everyday all the way thru the weekend.
Bare with me. I am on a tablet!

On average how often do you need to backwash? Glad to hear the pump was fixed quickly.
The CH plays a part in the CSI number. The CSI gives an overall "average" as to whether your water is corrosive or prone to scaling.
Also, if you are getting as much rain as you claim, the CH may actually be much lower than you think it is. Rain doesn't have any CH in it so it dilutes the pool water.
It's not super critical in a vinyl pool, but helps to give a good overview of what you are working with.
You can also harvest the rain water and use it to top off your pool as able.

it seems the rain raises the ph as well. so i guess that explains why i'm using sooo much muriatic acid.
right now my numbers i think look good. the water is crystal clear.
it's been over cast lately with not much direct sunlight.
should i maintain the 8 as the mustard algae minimum? i think i might croak if i don't get a chance to swim in this pool again.
after a few days of 80 degree weather the pool temp has dropped from the 90's.
it is currently reading 86 degrees.

Not really sure what that means? FC of 8 with a CYA of 50 is just a little elevated above normal maintenance level. And there is NO reason not to swim in that water unless you cannot see the bottom.
