Since she already has a boy and a girl, she may wait to find out. She's not sure yet. II hope she waits to be surprised. think my daughter in law is definitely going to find out what she is having as soon as she can since she has 3 boys and wants a girl.

Congratulations, Denise, on grandbaby #7!! What an exciting time for the family!! I can imagine hearing the joyful squealing and splashing of multi-aged grandkids in your pool! It will be big enough - you'll be surprised!

I think the blue-green patina on the scuppers will be a beautiful look with the stone wall! I like the natural look better. My experience with artificial metal finishes and clear coats has been dismal over the years. That could be my own ignorance of how to care for them. I briefly wondered how these scuppers would hold up out in the elements. But then my thinking went to, "Well, now days, metal finishes must be more durable. And surely a company would never sell something for a pool if it wouldn't hold up, right?!" (yes, I've been called gullible)

I think your suggestion for the scuppers to the PB is a good one. Did he say if he thought it was acid splash?

That will be fun to get your patio cushions! And the pergola and firepit! Awesome. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow!

The older ones are asking almost daily when they can swim in Nini and Papa's pool. I keep telling them "soon"! Right now they are all taking swim lessons. :)
 
When I saw the damage on the scuppers, I immediately thought of removing/replacing the finish and replacing with whatever keeps the copper out of the pool water, or maybe helping the patina to develop quickly. There must be some good methods, or maybe the copper is not an issue in that setting.

But that said, I'd really question having a PB do it, or his offsider, or the tile or stone guys (unless you noticed someone really careful).

Hopefully there's a chemical way to remove it.

I wouldn't let anyone but a pedantic craftsperson remove it mechanically (grinder, chisel, sanding). The outsides are easy enough, though still risky, but the insides are going to take some careful persistence.

Just my 2 cents having seen some beautiful things ruined by people that think they know everything and are in a hurry.

I asked PB if he had ever seen or heard of this happening, he hadn't. They are checking with the manufacturer to see if it was a defective run or something. I'm good if we can get these down to their copper base. I actually thought about doing it myself...
It honestly never occurred to me that the finish would or could come off! Silly me!

I'm starting to get excited about getting all this patio stuff out where it belongs and salvage the rest of the summer. :)

This is exactly why I may just tell him to leave them alone and I'll just do it myself. Probably muratic acid and water mix would work...

I was thinking about you and feeling so bad when they told me Thursday is plaster day for us. Part of me was like, No! Denise still doesn't have water and started way sooner! You have to do hers first! Lol. I'm so glad you're getting it tomorrow! Now I can enjoy mine guilt free knowing you got yours first. I know it's silly but it's a little how I was feeling. Ha! Congratulations!!

You have sure been through the emotional wringer! Your thread is like a good mini series! There's always a cliffhanger at the end of the episode, and I have to tune back in to see what happens next!

Seriously, I am so sorry for the mishaps during your build. I can tell you are meticulous and detail oriented, and though you handle it with grace, it's got to be a real burden. I know it would be for me. Hang in there!

As an aside, when I saw the damage your scupper I thought, that could look really cool with copper/patina. I'd question the possibility for staining of the plaster below them or throwing off water chemistry from the exposed copper, but otherwise, I think I'd personally like it.

Of course you could just make him replace it, and to avoid the mess, hold off on plastering until it was done.

They have been parked in front of my house since about 5:45.
I served them breakfast burritos, donuts and OJ. No one has touched the stuff yet.

I like the idea of YOU doing the "fix" on the scuppers. NO one else will take the time or use the care you will.

The skies are CLEAR :sun: nini is getting plaster that will be done right this time! I am heading over to eat the yummies! They are waiting to get done before they eat.

Is the "nice guy" there today? The one that was so upfront last time?

EXTRA shells? NICE!

Sock or wash cloth wrapped around the end of the hose yet?

When will they do the acid wash? When will they let water in?

Oh, TM! (((Hugs))) You are dear and sweet! Of course you should get plaster!!! Do not feel guilty about my build or any others. Yours is your own and we can not change the circumstances of others. I appreciate you and am excited for you! Your prayers and encouragement are precious to me.
I can't wait to see your pool full of water and you enjoying "my" table!

Technobuyer...My build should be titled, "Murphy's Law" or "As the Stomach Turns" or "The Money Pit 2: Adventures in Pool Building"
Hubby and I cracked up over the miniseries reference! It feels more like a soap opera!

When I was first considering the copper scuppers, I posted a thread about the copper affecting the chemistry and was reminders that the inner parts of the heater are copper and the water passes through there without any affect on the water chemistry, so I think they will be fine in looks and in function.

Tomorrow is acid wash!!! I work this afternoon but I'm off all day tomorrow. I'll wrap the hoses after acid wash.

Just spoke with with the boss (owner?) and he said he added EVEN MORE abalone this time. He also said they have not had anything happen like my disaster plaster in many many years. At first he said it hadn't happened before then he said
it was a long long time ago. Lucky me :/

Both the boss and the other "nice" man (they look like brothers) are here. It looks like the same crew. The acid wash guy is here too.
