New pool build with contemporary grotto

Still waiting on HOA before pool can start. Any one have suggestions on depth of the pool lights or any other suggestions?
Being Houston, you may want to think about a chiller to moderate the water temps in the summer months. Also, think about where you want to mount your robot controller and provide an electrical outlet there.

Our Microbrites are placed at 18” below the top of our travertine coping and provide good, even illumination.

Beautiful pool plan by the way - good luck!

OH YEAH!! Are you ready for your first pool job?? Grab your plans and a tape measure. Go out and measure it. It is wide, long, deep, etc enough? Add about 8" for the steel, shell, and plaster. For the wall you will add 16" or so. The depth should be from the floor to the middle of the skimmer opening. NOW is the time to fix/change as needed/wanted.

SWEET!!! Have you started bonding with it yet? aka watering it to help slow down the curing.

It is time for your set of links! The first set is all about what to do and ask about to get a great plaster job. The second set is all about how to care for your pool after you get the plaster.

Plaster links:
Ten Guidelines for Quality Pool Plaster Best one of all
All Plaster Finishes Should Last 20 Years
Not All Color Pigments are Good for Pools How to pick a good color for plaster.

Now is also a good time to ask what test kit your PB will be providing so we can fill in any holes.

Have not started watering yet, not sure if starting today would be too soon. It is supposed to rain overnight tonight. Then watering twice a day should be sufficient starting tomorrow?

Will look through the plaster info. Believe we are going with pebblesheen blue surf, but not sure if the plaster color is blue or white. Assuming it will be blue.

As far as test kits, assuming they will give some kind of strips. Will probably need to order a better one to start with.

The rain will be your friend tonight. Try watering it twice a day. With it being cooled there you might not need to do more than that. See how fast the water soaks in. If the shells is just drinking it up then move up to 3 or 4 times a day. If the water just rolls off it then once a day should do it. Listen to your pool.

These are the Test Kits Compared. It is recommended to obtain one of these which provides the best testing capabilities.

It would be a nice Christmas present for yourself or whoever may do the testing.

Disappointing that your builder cheaped out and gave you three ball valves instead of diverters. They will not last long in TX sun before they stick and handles break.

The water feature pump will go to the rainfall descent on the grotto. They ran it in a loop through the grotto with a line to dump in the pool depending on how much we want coming out of the rainfall feature. Unfortunately I wasn't able to be there today when they did all the plumbing so will have to go over it tomorrow with them for most of it. One of the lines will be for a bubbler on the sun deck as well.
