I have a Hayward aqua plus. I just bought a Hayward tristar vsp which works great. I would like the aqua plus to control it but I'm not sure how to program it any help would be great

So exactly where are you stuck? The installation manual should tell you how to connect the two and the operation manual should explain how to program the pump.
I can't get the aqua plus to turn on the pump. Right now the panel on the pump is controlling it

On the pump itself where you connect the control cable, there is a dip switch that needs to be set to remote mode. That should be explained the VS pump manual.

In the filter menu, you can enable a VS pump and then set the maximum speed and the speeds for high and low. The instructions are in the AquaPlus manual pg 18:

I tried that the aqua plus panel says vsp com error I tried resetting the breaker and it still comes back with the same message
Its working now. The dip switches weren't set to off thanks. Do you know if I can program it to run at low speed and bump up the speed when the solar turns on

By default, the pump will ramp up to maximum speed (settable in the filter menu) and stay there as long as solar is engaged.
However, you can also allow the motor to run on low speed during the solar period if so desired. When solar low speed is enabled and solar is triggered, the pump will run at max speed for about 3 minutes and then step down to low speed. But that will only work if the VRV is installed at a fairly low elevation.
