Going from 1.5 to 2 inch pipe

Thanks and after a bunch of research this is my plan. The more I read and learned about inteliflo, I don't think it's tech that I need. I tend be a sucker for the latest greatest, but the way I understand inteliflo is that it's designed to maintain a certain gpm and will increase or decrease...

Going from 1.5 to 2 inch pipe

So I'm a little frustrated by pentair's website. They link to a generic inteliflo manual so I'm unsure if the info is correct but it looks like the i2 still requires a 230v line. While I have a 20amp breaker on my box, I do not believe there's a 2 pole line out to the pool where I could rewire...

Going from 1.5 to 2 inch pipe

Small but important update. I'm seeing that all the larger pumps requrie a 208/230 line and I don't have that running to my pool and if this project would require a new line, new pool piping and a more expensive pump then I'm probably never going to have any ROI for energy savings. Side note...

Going from 1.5 to 2 inch pipe

For the efficiency. A 3hp pump running at 1.5hp will be far more energy efficient than a 1.5hp running balls to the wall. You're correct that I do not need a 3hp pump and would likely never push it past 2hp.

Going from 1.5 to 2 inch pipe

Regarding HP and gallons, I was referring to flow and that a 2" pipe can move more volume with less velocity. So there is data regarding the right size pipe for volume of pool. It just so happens that obviously the higher hp pumps are paired with the 2" pipes. Sorry for the confusion. I don't...

Going from 1.5 to 2 inch pipe

So I have a 24,000 gallon inground. My research tells me that 1.5" piping is really only efficient to ~18k gallons and I really should have a 2" system for more flow, less velocity. Clearly I'm not going to dig up all my 1.5" piping underground but as I'm in the process of replacing a dinosaur...

Intex inflatable Hot tub has black carbon flakes in the water

Just started for me. Tub is about 6 months old. Only changes recently is that it’s hot out and I see the temp get above 104, also added a bigger bromine floater as the supplied single puck wasn’t doing the trick. Bromine levels are right where they’re supposed to be!

    Merlin Smart Mesh Cover

Interesting replies here. My cover from the previous owner (merlin smart mesh as well)I believe is probably 20+ years old and I have had off and on issues with green openings. However, this year I tried to keep leaves off (it sags in the middle) and had a better opening. Biggest issue I have is...

Anyone use an inflatable spa in winter? (freezing temps)

quite a bit more. specs are 1300 watts for the heater. Once it reaches the set temp, maintaining that is variable based on many factors. Essentially if it takes, say 10 hours to heat to your required temp you're using 1.3kw x 10 hours = 13 kwh * say $0.10kwh and you're at $1.30. My intext left...

Anyone use an inflatable spa in winter? (freezing temps)

Thought I'd chime in on this old thread. I recently purchased an intex purespa for $350 from walmart and another $125 for the energy efficient cover. I filled it Sunday at 1pm with 46*F hose water and 30 hours later it was 95* haha. It's been mid 30's here in upstate NY and I didn't expect a...

    Pool Pole Time

I'll add that i bought the JED pole off amazon and received it yesterday, and used today. I really like it so far. It's sleek, locks and unlocks easy and seems durable. Obviously, the true test will be a summers worth of use and if the pole holds and maintains it's easy lock and unlock. I'll try...

    Pool Pole Time

hopping on because I need a new pole too. Not sure what my original is but the lock just doesn't stay tight, but the reviews out there don't point to a clear winner for quality and price

Help with pump and tripping breaker

I'm now 95% sure its a capacitor, so waiting on that to come in the mail. I'll be watching sales and hopefully score a superflo on a good deal. I like the idea of a vs pump and I know my current pump is dated, not efficient and on its last legs. thanks all.

Help with pump and tripping breaker

thanks Dan, that was actually on my list this morning and there is a capacitor. I'm going to order one. I didn't attempt to spin the shaft yet though. Perhaps I improperly believed that if it's been running fine most of the year that the windings are ok. That the shaft might not spin if corroded...

    Skim a round

So I bought this over the winter. I tried it early in the spring, but it didn't fit my basket, none of the 3 rings did. So I shelved it for later. Fast forward to our weir door braking (it's spring loaded, but the rings that hold it in place snapped and it pops off during heavy swimming. They...

Help with pump and tripping breaker

I have this old pump. For the 2 years we've owned the house it's worked well. Last Week it shut off at night during a storm due to a tripped breaker. I reset it and a few days later, same thing. Checked the timer and it appears fine (it's inside at the panel). Cleaned the basket, nothing major...

    Dual or Variable Speed?

thanks all. looks like the superflo is a better deal and also variable flow. fit's all my current specs for 115v, 1hp and 1.5 piping Pentair SuperFlo VS Energy Efficient Variable Speed Pool Pump

    Dual or Variable Speed?

so basically the savings in the variable speed is all about tuning to meet your need?

    Dual or Variable Speed?

Troubleshooting an issue right now that might just require a new gfci, or possibly a new pump. I am not the original owner and don't know how old this outdoor pump is. dyna-tech C1245 (looks like this model is sold by several companies). Can't decode serial number for manufacture date, maybe...

New Owner First Time (Bromine) Swamp

closure, should anyone search and read the thread. Pool was swimmable Monday Night (4.5 days in) I do believe FLOC helped speed up the process and I'm not sure if it was worth the $50 and if eventually my pool would have cleared with more time, or if would have stayed cloudy without the floc...

New Owner First Time (Bromine) Swamp

kimkats, once a bromine pool, always a bromine pool. Until I need a new liner I'm probably stuck without significant expense. anyhow, a little update. The pool guys put 6 pounds of shock (not sure what) in. And the next day I added a gallon of 10% bleach and a gallon of clorox algae and clarify...

New Owner First Time (Bromine) Swamp

Second time opening our pool. We use a service. Last year was fine, this year I have a green swamp and I'm not really sure why. We did open a week later than normal and it's been warm... but I don't know. anyhow it's an outdoor bromine pool (don't get me started). But has always been crystal...

    Bugs and Worms - Inground

This is my first full season in our new inground. I ran it for 2 months last season really without issue. One major change I made to this bromine pool (don't get me started) is that i put my pump on a timer to run 12 hours a day instead of 24/7. The other change is that NY has had a very rainy...

Frame leveling for Intex Easy Install Pool? Please Advise!

i've had 2 intexs. never did sand or frames. if you have a slope and no other choice i guess you have to do a frame. But i would just advise you kill the grass with some roundup. rake and level the soil and buy a heavy duty tarp to use instead of the supplied tarp. you should be good to go.

Pool heater "time to heat" and "cost to heat" calculations >

Re: Pool heater "time to heat" and "cost to heat" calculations > I built a spreadsheet, my comment was that there are a lot of "free html style calculators" out there. Just surprised some pool site doesn't have one where you just plug in btu's of your heater, $/therm and gallons of water. Yes...

    Don't Add This !! ArGHhh

why would anyone sell or buy bromine for a chlorine pool? As a bromine pool owner, once you insert bromine into a chlorine pool you can't go back without a full water and filter change. Seems to be common knowledge as well, so I get the super magic sparkle comment but this one seems silly.

    How long to run pump?

that is my plan, but unfortunately the previous owner chose bromine and my research shows a complete water dump with liner change is required to switch.
