Just installed a new liner and filling up the pool...

Are there any guides on how to treat a newly refilled pool? I have no idea what I am in for so looking for some advice on what to expect. Will the levels be completely out of whack? Thanks

    What are these?

Thanks, that was it exactly. One of them did not work when I loosened it, but the other did.

    What are these?

I am replacing the coping and pavers on my inground pool. We have a bench in the shallow end with two returns that have these white hoses with some type of cap sticking out above them. See pics below b/c I clearly have no idea to accurately describe them lol. We are trying to decide what to do...

Questions on filter pressure and cleaning

I had the filter replaced a few years ago along with the pump and heater. The filter came with the gauge. It read less than 2ppm from the very 1st day they installed it. My old filter would normally read 8-10, so when I got the new one I figured it was lower b/c it was brand new.

Questions on filter pressure and cleaning

Hehe, no problem. Should I be concerned that may filter pressure barely registers 2psi to start? I've asked before and the response I remember getting was to not be concerned but it is so much lower than what most people seem to register as normal.

Questions on filter pressure and cleaning

Thanks, I didn't realize the required chlorine is that high for 60 CYA. My pool starts the year with 0 CYA and so I add some once the pool is clear but didn't think to increase my chlorine base level.

Questions on filter pressure and cleaning

Hi Jim/Cwiggs, I am not sure what you meant by "Your heater should not have any DE in it.." I did do an OCLT and loss less than 0.5ppm. My PH has been steady at 7.6 and my CYA is 60. I add about 1/2 gallon of liquid chlorine a day, which is normal for me. My morning reading is typically between...

Questions on filter pressure and cleaning

I have a DE filter that is only a few years old. My pool is a swamp each year when I open it so I have to backwash frequently in the first week or so until the water is clear, usually going through two 25lb bags of DE in that span. The starting pressure of the filter when the water is clean and...

FLO error on my heater while the pump is running

Hi, that is going back four years so I am trying to remember exactly what happened. For sure, I had a similar issue with the breaker where it would trip often. An electrician came and replaced it and since then it has not tripped. The FLO error does still happen time to time and I have noticed...

Pool cleaner recommendations for free form pool

I have had a Dolphin Sumpreme M4 for nine years and when I put it in the pool for the first time this year, it did not budge when I turned it on. I have not been terribly happy with it and so I might opt for a new one as opposed to paying for a repair. The issue I have with it is it spends way...

    Replacing pavers around my pool

I will be replacing the pavers around my inground pool this spring. I have a cover that attaches to the existing grommets that were installed along with the pavers when the pool was built back in 2005. I'm wondering if I am going to need a pool company come in and replace the grommets or if the...

Electric heaters - should I lower my expectation

I would like to get a solar cover but my pool is pretty oddly shaped (almost S shaped) so I'd likely have to cut it into separate pieces and since I work in the city (well except for this year), I know my wife and kids are not going to up for taking it off each day. Maybe I'm should stop being...

Electric heaters - should I lower my expectation

Are those figures assuming no sun? It looks like mine is doing 1/4 degree an hour on a cloudy day

Electric heaters - should I lower my expectation

I got a Hayward HeatPro electric heater installed a few years ago (model is below). When it is on, the water coming out of the jets is warm but I would by no means classify it as hot. Thursday in NY was a cloudy day in the 70's. I ran the heater for 8 hours and the pool went up 2 degrees. I know...

    Pump Speeds and Filter Pressure

Thanks Mark. The equipment is a bit lower than the pool. Its not dramatic, but definitely down slope from the pool.

    Pump Speeds and Filter Pressure

When my variable speed pump is first turned on and priming, the PSI on my DE filter only gets as high as 8. I set my pump to run at 2800RPM, which gives me a 2 PSI reading. That seems low, but the pool stays clear all summer. Should I be concerned about the low pressure? If I go any lower than...

Question on air release valve on my filter

First off, thanks for everyone's replies. This site truly is remarkable and a life saver. I had to purchase all new equipment last year and went with a Hayward Maxflo variable speed pump. It appears that this thread may have been much ado about nothing because after opening the air release valve...

Question on air release valve on my filter

I don't see bubbling in the pump basket and it always looks fill. When you say to open the valve after the pump has been running for awhile, should I open it while the pump is running or right after it stops? What should I expect to have happen if I do that?

Question on air release valve on my filter

Hi All, is it normal that every time I open the air release valve on my filter that a lot of air comes out? With the pump off I open the valve and air rushes out for a good 20-30 seconds. I then turn the pump on and air continues to rush out for another 10 seconds until water finally starts...

is a pressure reading of 0 OK?

Ok thanks will do. Whenever I've opened the valve with the pump running it spits out water right away.
