Thank you - i didn’t understand that the last drop counted is the one that doesn’t change the color- I stopped the drop before

    Total alkalinity low

Attached are my pool math readings for the past five days. I added 31%muriatic acid a day before the first reading in the attachment. My ta is between 50 & 60 which you all say to round up. I will be closing the pool relatively soon so I want to get the chemicals fully balanced. I want to...

Black spots on ladder steps and green on liner

You guys are all outstanding! I feel very lucky to have found this amazing group late last year. I turned a friend on to TFP. And he loves it also. I have had my pool since 1992 or so and have been following Leslie’s advice all these years. Including shocking every two weeks or so, buying...

Black spots on ladder steps and green on liner

I now understand- I hope I can remember all of this next year since my pool season is probably over at the end of this week🥴 Is ph in the low 7s irritating to the eyes? What is the downside to ph being below 7.2?

Thanks for the tips! - the insides of my steps have only small access holes . So I’ll try cleaning at the end of season by pouring in 50/50 mixture in a few weeks , and again at opening.

I wish I thought of that - it would have saved about $75. That’s what I should do with the main steps- take out of pool fill with the 50/50 chorine and shake it around then put them away for the winter. Hopefully that will get them ready for next year. And the TFP method will keep my pool...

Black spots on ladder steps and green on liner

In reply to earlier posts I replaced the ladder steps. Found the heavy algae on the back side. I’m hoping this was the cause of my problems. However I have another set of main entrance steps which I can’t see the back of . I guess that will have to be replaced next year. They probably run...

I was worried that the ph is too low and that the acidity would affect the SWG plates. I don’t think there will be any problem for the SWG to keep up with fc since the weather here is cooling. Today without the SWG and the outside temperature of low 80’s the fc only dropped about 1 or 2 ppm...

Black spots on ladder steps and green on liner

Now that my slam is done I’m letting the fc drift downward. I went and had my pool tested at Leslie’s just for comparison and to see if my CYA seems close. I’m looking for advise as to how I should proceed in rebalancing - eg. Raise alk first or ph first as soon as fc gets below 10? My...

    Overshot salt target.

I’ve had it off since i performed a SLAM. The fc is coming down. Currently around 17. But it has generally agreed with my test results prior to the SLAM.

    Overshot salt target.

I accidentally got the salt level to 3500 - 3600. It is for a t-15 Hayward. Can I leave it there or must I lower the water level to get it below 3400? And early today I added a 40 lb bag of salt. When adding small amounts like that it is recommended to turn off SWG for the next 24 hours...

Water is back to Crystal clear. Replenished the salt to target. Doing OCLT overnight. How long after sunrise do I have to take morning reading. Is it right after sunrise or is it until sun first directly hits the pool which could be an hour or so after sunrise?

So now my pool is crystal clear again. The CYA is between 50 & 60. My fc this morning was 26.5 a little over SLAM target. My plan is to let it drift back down over the next few days. I will do OCLT tonight. And agin each night till it passes. since the fc is over 10 I know that ph is...

That gives me the temp to shoot for . Is it the same for opening? And should I put 3” pucks in a floater over the winter? When I was closing myself a few years ago ( without TFP knowledge) I would wait as long as I could. Usually by the end of October. And I opened to get pump running in...

No. But what the general recommendation as the proper time to close. Since I will be paying a pro to do it . I was surprised to see one of the above comments indicate that algecide is used in closings. I though TFP method is not to use products like that??

Thanks I’ll use a pool guy to close everything but putting in chemicals. I don’t like blowing the lines and taking apart the SWG . I’ll read the two attachments tomorrow to see if I should do the whole thing. But I doubt that I’ll change my mind
