Zodiac Polaris booster pump leaking after 2-3 years - seal, volute

My Zodiac PB4-60 booster pump is in its 3rd year of operation (and since we are in NJ, we use the pool 3-4 months each year) and already developing some leak (around the seal shaft area and/or the bottom of the volute). Ordered both a new volute and a seal kit, just in case.

My question is, is it "normal" to replace volute / shaft seal already?? I would think at least 5+ years before maintaining anything but I guess I may be too optimistic :)

Thanks!!!!
Replaced the Volute and no more leaks - found 2 hairline cracks and not sure manufacturing / material defect. I sent an email to Polaris / Zodiac and got a reply of "oh...sorry as they should last longer but here is the link for where you can buy a new volute"
