Yet another Texas pool build!

My husband votes for the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

That is right! I love Berlin. It means a lot to me since my grandparents were from Eastern Germany and migrated here during WW2

Ok I was there now I am here. Any guesses?

Best guess was Victory Column but we don't think that's right. I asked my daughter in Germany and she asked her friend from Berlin. Neither are sure! We love learning about Germany. I have two daughters (exchange students) from Germany (8 total).

Looks like a museum district? Museum Island maybe?

That is awesome. When my kids are older I would love to have an exchange student from Europe.

Blue Surf is standard level Pebble Sheen. So no extra cost vs say Blue Granite or Aqua Blue. The Luminous cost is based on how big your pool is. A pool my size my PB said would be $1400.

Well here is an update to the pool...

I had my final inspection yesterday and failed. The guy really didn't even go down to the pool. He seemed to only care about the perimeter. He was super nice and actually seemed disappointed he had to fail me. Here is what I think he was looking for:

1. Alarm on door with deactivation at least 54" above the floor
2. Alarm on windows going to the back yard (more on this later) with deactivation 54" above the window sill.
3. Spring on gate
4. Verified that fence went around entire yard
5. Levels of all of the above.

Ok so I put an alarm on the door and an alarm on the 2 windows going onto my deck. My house is so far off the ground my PB though that I wouldn't fail if I didn't put alarms on all the windows. I looked and looked and couldn't find the rule for that so I tried to save money and just armed 1 door and 2 windows. I have 10 total windows that go out there so at 20 a piece for the alarms the cost would have been steep. Well it turns out the official rule is the windows have to be 6 feet above grade. So I failed on 2 because they are over my stairs going down off the deck and were less than 6'. I asked if I could put locks on them that had allen bolts so kids couldn't remove them and he said that was fine and as long as the window didn't open more than 4" I would pass. So I went to Lowes and purchased 2 window locks that had allen screws in them and installed them so the windows barely open.

The second thing I failed on is my gate latch. The gate latch has to be 54" above ground. Mine was at 50". I didn't know this requirement so I hadn't prepared. I moved the latch up and fixed the board the tree guy broke at the same time. So about 1 hour total including a trip to Lowes I should be in compliance. They called for another inspection that should be today or tomorrow.

On the PB front they have some small things left to do. I have about 20 pavers that got stained when the water pipe burst and pushed mud all over my deck. I wasn't able to clean it because I was down from my foot surgery or I probably would have handled it myself. They have been trying all sorts of things to clean it up. They are going to try one more thing and if it doesn't work then they need to order more pavers (because one of the subs took all my extras) and install about 30 sq ft of deck again. They also need to put in some new sand where they had to remove the sand to put my bonding wire for my electric. They just installed new sod yesterday so that is done. The guy who worked on it got dirt all over my deck and I complained and he came out and said that his pressure washer is broke. Hopefully he comes and gets it off before it stains more pavers.

This just tells me I need to seal my deck or I am going to have issues.

Yea!!! Congratulations Umm!!

Thanks! I am so excited to be done! (even though I am not. I now know that even if the PB is no longer around I am ok with the city)

Oh happy day!!! You are almost free of them!

Kim

Yep!

Congrats! I'm glad I didn't have to put my alarms on all my windows that face the pool......My inspector actually said (When he was failing me for other things), that wasn't needed. Now go enjoy it!

I think it is funny that each inspector says what is needed or what isn't. They are actually required by the code. I wasn't sure if there were other options so I asked if instead of alarms if I could install tamper proof locks and he said that would be fine. Not sure if other inspectors would say it is ok but at least it worked for this one.

Congrats! What's left besides the stain removal?

I need them to replace some poly sand. They had to remove a paver by my hose bib to fix that and they had to remove some grout by the hand rail for the bond wire. I just asked for some poly sand to be put back there. The stain is the biggest remaining item because it might involve paver replacement. I am just thrilled that everything else is done. I know now that if they go out of business there isn't anything major left in my job.

Congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you!!! Now to get the bits and pieces tidied up and you are DONE!

Thanks!!! Just a couple more things and we are done! I will probably be sealing the pavers as soon as the stain is fixed. That way I know that they are protected.

Congratulations! It's good to hear you passed and are almost 100% done

Nothing like getting that final signed off on from the city.
