Yet another Texas pool build!

I say an upgrade on the finish AND the tech thing.

HUGS! I hope this is the beginning of the end :(

Kim

I hope so too! I am so happy they are getting a new sub on the job. I figure we can only go up from here.

I agree with Kim - definitely an upgrade on the finish and the controller. And, having everything else done the right way the first time! But I know that's dreaming.

Still keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Suz.

Thanks! Not sure if I'll get anything. They are pretty willing to do extra as far as deck size/etc... I didn't ask for much though it was just so I could get my skimmer surrounded which maybe added 3 or 4 feet to the width of my deck on a sweeping angle so it really didn't add much.

I would hope the PB voluntarily offers you a upgrade of some sort; given what u have gone through, you really shouldn't even have to ask.

I would think so too but that hasn't been the case. The owner really doesn't get involved as far as I can tell. It is a bit of a let down. You think he could at least give a call saying he cares and wants to do something but he doesn't really say anything unless we go in and ask for him.

How much would an upgrade to all travertine be? Just thinking out loud...

I would love travertine but I think it is too late for that. All of our deck material has been delivered and is sitting in our side yard. So in order to upgrade us they would also have to eat the cost of all the material that is already there. I think there are at least 4 or 5 pallets of pavers for our deck out there.

Anyway our girlfriend already has another sub coming out to look at the job today. He is meeting him at 2p.m. He doesn't know anything about his schedule and I guess he has to sign some documents with the pool builder before he can start work.

So just an update for this thread...

My girlfriend met with the new sub today. He said he is great and my wife told me he was using a notepad to take notes so that is a good sign!

He will be able to start next week sometime so I guess this actually probably didn't slow down my build at all if you consider the other guy would have had to do every step 2 or 3 times. So that is good.

We also will be getting a free upgrade to add Bead Crete glass beads to our Blue Surf pebble sheen.

Only one other snag is our concrete is an issue. No subs are willing to do our top cast sand finished concrete. I need to go tomorrow to talk to the sales manager so we can figure out some other material to use. I am leaning toward asking them to do the entire deck in pavers. Steps would be done with the wall blocks and caps from the walls. It means a couple more retaining walls need to be built to hold up the upper part of the deck. Not sure if that will fly or not.

I hope your girlfriend never checks his website!!
Haha! I already told him I call him that because he calls me so much. He thinks it is hilarious. He is really a nice guy's

Explain to the sales manager how travertine would look much better for their display photos - might even get your pool posted on PebbleTec's site!!! Doesn't hurt to ask!
Suz.

Haha maybe!

So so smart! They will benefit from you having travertine. Ha love it!

Suz is a smart one for sure.

PROGRESS! A notepad?????? WOW!

Kim

I am still having trouble coming to grip with someone working on my pool who actually cares enough to write down what needs to be done.

Meeting tomorrow with sales manager to figure out my concrete alternatives. He probably won't accept the travertine. He already told me that he is going to bring over some 'other' pavers that we could switch to because mine are pricey. I am prepared because I called their vendor with the cost/sqft for my pavers so I know exactly how much they cost when he gets here. This way if he is trying to tell me they cost $6k more then I know he is blowing smoke.

Ok had a meeting with the sales manager. It went way better than I expected (sorry no travertine). I think the way he talks about my pavers they must be gold filled or something. They are costly at $5.50/sqft. I think I only paid slightly more than that for the wood floors I have in my house. The labor is probably the same I am guessing.

Anyway yesterday I had an epiphany and decided I wanted to redesign the deck closest to the house. I wasn't too fond of my deck after they put up the forms for the concrete they can't do. They are super tall and would require a lot of grading. Plus there is a large amount of steps right in the middle of the deck so it makes most of the deck unusable for furniture. I actually made a new design myself using a photo app on my computer. This should allow for enough room for a table and some seating around the front of the pool. Here is the design:

They kept kidding that I should design pools for them. All I did was redraw the steps and put in some rocks. The sales manager is going to have someone at the pool company redo my original drawings in CAD since mine were all done with a photo app. Anyway the entire deck will be in my existing paver selection which I am very happy with. (I think this is costing them way more than the cement too.)

For the stairs and the walkway between decks it will be a smaller version of the paver we are using for our coping. So it should tie it all together. The retaining wall on the right side will have to be extended and all the stairs will be made with pavers instead of concrete. I think it will look great. Definitely will be different than any other pool I have seen. That could be a good thing or a bad thing.

Lastly the new crew to start redoing all my walls will be here on Monday. I am feeling like we might get moving now!

I like the steps. And the little pathway. So the part on the left side is more elevated than the front? I really love the raised decks that look over the water. It looks like it's going to be awesome. I can't wait to see the real thing!

I hope they pull it together for you.

Me too! At least they are really trying. They could have tried to give up and walk by now but they are sticking with it.

Yay!! I think it is going to look amazing!!!

Thanks I sure hope so.

Both decks are level with the coping. My lot is sloped down hill from the front right to the back left. The walkway follows the grade downhill so there needs to be other steps to get up to the next deck.
That will look wonderful!

Thanks!
