Yet another Texas pool build!

Umm, I meant to type beads and not shells. Senior moment! LOL! Glad to hear that they are worth the upgrade.

That is stunning! Perfect setting for your pool! Or should I say the pool is perfect for your setting?!

I was wondering how it works with a pool finished this time of year. Since you're going to use a SWG system, will the PB switch it over in 30 days or wait until the weather warms up in the spring? I'm still a little fuzzy on how my SWG system works, but I know soon it will be cold enough that I start using bleach again during the cold months.

Why can't you use salt when it's cold out?

Marla I did some reading and it seems the SWG does not work if the water is below 60.....so you have to add bleach to keep the FC up.

I do not know WHY the SWG does not work below 60. I am doing some more reading to learn about it. I will pass on what I learn.

Kim

Thanks, Kim, for taking that question. I just read the link, and I still don't think I can explain it without having those notes in front of me! Ha! When I decided on a SWG system, I understood about that somewhere deep inside my brain. But the info still isn't in the part of my brain that puts words to it! (disclaimer: if you understood how my brain works, it may be possible you need to request medical assistance.)

I love my SWG system! I'll gladly add a little bleach once a week for a few months rather than almost daily for the rest of the year. I might feel differently if I were younger and not lazy. Lol!!

The first pb I interviewed told me - while shaking his head no, with a look of disdain on his face, and ending his words with tsk, tsk, tsk - that most PB's won't tell you how SWG's are no good in the winter! Boy, I fell for it hook, line, and sinker until the next pb explained it to me. (and he didn't even want to build a SWG system but would).

Take care,
Suz.

LOL I still do not understand the whys! I will be doing some more reading to teach myself. Notice that I posted a link to let it do the "talking" for me!

Kim (who understands how your mind works as it is VERY much like mine.......look a squirrel!)

Like I said, being so new, this may be a dumb question.

I forgot to say how much I love the glass beads. They really do change and enhance the look!! Just as beautiful as Spool's finish! (Did I really say that?? I didn't think I'd ever like a finish as much!!)
hey plan
Honestly Suz I don't know why they are coming to start it up in the winter but I am guessing they want out of my life as much as I want them out of it. They plan on starting it up a month from now so I guess same as summer...

I really do like the finish. I think it is similar to Spool's just I have less black beads (not sure if his black is glass or beads). I love his finish but probably would have picked it because I was really worried about the water temperature getting too hot. I am really happy with the finish and the color which hopefully won't be as warm. My neighbor's pool is darker (I think his is Marbilite) and his pool gets pretty warm so it will be interesting to compare).

I kept looking at the Bead Crete wondering if I should do it but it is 100% glass and I always came back to the conclusion that it was too much for me. Then I was fortunate to see it on PebbleTec's website. I don't know why I didn't know about it before but for some strange reason it showed up on my phone app and also on there website. Plus it was early enough for the PB to throw it in before they realized how much my job was actually costing them and they wanted to cut off all hemorrhaging. So I was blessed by the entire timing of it.

Great looking pool!

Thanks!

That color is beautiful!!! Love it and so happy you have water!!

Thank you! Now that the day of horror is over I am really enjoying it. I wish my foot would let me be out there longer. I really don't mind the scooping of the leaves or anything.

Why can't you use salt when it's cold out?

I see your question was answered. I don't know how we got from SWG's not working in the winter to squirrels than to NL Christmas Vacation. haha. As a kid that was my favorite movie of all time. I always wanted that many lights on my house. My last house I even had a christmas option installed which had outlets in all the eaves so I could run lights without extension cords. Then extra outlets in the flower beds. Turns out that I paid to put that all in and my foundation ended up being so tall that the 1st floor eave was at least 18feet of the ground so I never put lights on the house. My first house in Cali had so many lights that it inspired the neighbors and they started going crazy and then we ended up having lines of cars coming up the street into our culdesac waiting to see the cul-de-sac of lights. it was a small town so this behavior was unusual.

ummmmm you are a man after my own heart! At our old house I had the whole side of the house and yard done up! Like your house once we started doing it others on the street did it also! We where thankful we were not on a cul-de-sac so everyone could drive down the road then out. It was neat. Now we only do an inside of the house for us and guests as we are set too far back from the road.

LOL at SWG to squirrels to NL------if you have read any of the build threads I have "helped" with we do tend to wander all over the place!

Well I made an acid out of myself today. It was my first time adding MA to the pool.

My ph was 7.5 and the PB wants it at 7.2. I just poured th jug and guessed. I needed 32 oz according to the pool calculator. I retested and it is right at 7.2.

How drastically does MA drive down the TA? Should I test tomorrow? My PB wanted the TA at 100 and I overshot to 110 yesterday before I added the acid.

Look at you being a pro MA pourer already!

ummmm use pool math to see what it says. Down towards the bottom is a place that says Effects of adding....

You can test everything within 30 mins of adding it with the pump running.

How is the foot doing?

Kim

Well how did I miss that? So I am lowering TA by 5.5 so I am still good for another pour!

My foot is doing ok. I get my stitches out tomorrow. I hope he will say it is ok to ditch the crutches and just walk with the boot.

One think I realized is the pool is really good at eating leaves. I know that I need to help when there is a major storm but a few here or there it will get all on its own. I just have to keep cleaning out the filter basket because they are mostly going down the main drain.

Umm, your pool looks amazing and I'm so happy to hear your foot recovery is progressing nicely. I'm glad you can look back and see the blessings in the trials, it's a great quality and not something easily done by many.

I LOVE decorating for Christmas! I always wanted to put up lights and the whole nine yards, alas, hubby does not like to decorate at all for Christmas. He would prefer I get a 2' table top tree. So, all of my decorating is limited to what I can safely reach. I gave up on outside stuff many years ago. I'm currently on the hunt for a new Christmas tree. Had to get rid of my old one because it was just shedding too badly. I'm having a hard time finding one I like that isn't crazy expensive. With doing the pool, I'll probably wait until next year to buy one.

You are starting to sound like a real chemical expert! You all are gonna need to help me when I get started.

Ummgood,
I have been away for a while, but just got caught up on your thread. Glad to hear your foot is doing better, and by the way, your pool looks great!

Thank you!!

I've forgotten... What type of pool cleaner will you be using? Polaris type, robot, etc?

Suz.

Umm she is about 4' tall and weighs about 45 pounds and fiesty!

J/K I have a polaris for now. I wanted the robot but the PB was pretty unwilling to remove the pump and plumbing and it was back when I just wanted them to get started on the pool. They were having major issues just agreeing with each other (Construction Manager and Designer). After the designer was fired it got much better and I started controlling more of the decisions myself because they really didn't have an alternative.

Anyway the polaris is in the garage and they said they would come in 2 weeks to set it up.

haha I will try to help! Kim is the master.

I love christmas lights! I would have a million if I could. We used to have an artificial tree but my daughter's cat decided he likes to chew on cords. He literally destroyed the lights on our artificial tree by chewing them. (I really dislike her cat BTW). Anyway I wasn't going to spend another few hundred bucks on another one so we currently are doing real trees and stringing the lights on them ourselves. I prefer artificial but if he destroys a tree a year the cost is too high.

Costco has really nice artificial trees. The quality seems to be better than the ones you get at Target/etc... They are pricey (I think my 9' tree cost $400) but it was really lush and almost realistic in a fake type of way KWIM?

Thank you!!

Ahhh! Cutest pool cleaner EVER! She is adorable!
Gosh, you pool is beautiful! Wish we could do the travertine but I will console myself with remembering I am exceedingly blessed to be getting what we are doing and be extremely happy for those who were/are able to upscale. After all your headaches, you certainly deserve it!
Thanks for the heads up about Costco. There is one being built about a mile from me. I'll look there next year. I'll probably put up a small, sparse cheapie just so I can at least see a few of my favorite ornaments.
