For reference, this thread was my last stain thread and it ended up being iron staining. I took a snorkel and a sock full of crushed vitamin C tablets and sorted it out, thanks for the contributions there team.

I now have two new stains I am dealing with; pics attached. Note that the blue marks in the images is the original colour of the pool, they did a terrible job on the repaint many years before I bought the house.

First is a stain above the water line that runs around the whole rim of the pool, is about 5cm thick and a greenish tinge. It feels a little bit oily to the touch.
Second are many tiny brown spots that are on the small edge around the whole pool and on the inside corners of the steps. Some of the brown spots are also on the top fibreglass lip of the pool that is not exposed to the water (unless it is splashed out).

I have tried the following on both stains:
  • Magic sponge (melamine foam)
  • Erase-It Stain Remover wand (for fibreglass pools)
  • A sponge made out of crushed walnut
  • Vitamin C
  • Polychite pool cleaner solution (fill pool to brim and add 500mL for 50,000L as per instructions and this was 1 week ago with no change)
Nothing has worked on either types of stains.

My numbers as of last weekend are:
  • FC - 5.2
  • pH - 7.6
  • TA - 81
  • CH - 407
  • CYA - 60
  • Salt - 3900
  • CSI - -0.17
  • The pool shop I took my water to also said I have high copper. I usually test myself with a Clear Choice Labs kit but visited my local shop in desperation and they ran all the tests which were in line with my numbers but they were also able to do a copper test. They sold me the polychite pool cleaner.
Salt pool with SWG, uncovered, around 24 degrees C.

Put some dry acid in a sock and rub it on the stains. If they come out you have copper stains.

I ordered some dry acid and did the sock test. The small brown dots were not affected by the acid however the thick rim seemed to get lighter after I rubbed it.
