I guess you were not asking everyone but I'll chime in anyway since I have used X10 extensively in many homes over 25 years. I have X10 presently on a half dozen pricey wall switches of various types, including one that controls the primary to my 12VAC pool light transformer (GFCI circuit there). The pool transformer is driven by a version of switch that can handle inductive loads, and the only one that ever worked properly is the version that uses an internal mechanical relay, non-dimmable of course. I can dig up that switch model if you need it. As well I have a perhaps a dozen lamp modules. I get very reliable operation from
almost all the X10 devices, but a couple of the lamp modules will misbehave and turn on unexpectedly, usually due to a storm with presumably some powerline variations. Of course much is written across the web about filtering to prevent spurious X10 operation, from filtering at the suspected sources to whole house filtering, etc. In my current home it seems the pricier switches are very reliable, and I can only guess that the lower priced lamp modules are most prone to spurious responses. I never had any luck with filters, having tried many. That said, the greatest X10 predictability improvement I ever got was when I installed an active phase coupler/amplifier at the main panel. For that I have the XTB-IIR, (but I think no longer made) described by JV at
XTB-IIR/+ High-Power 2-Phase X10 Repeater - JV Digital Engineering. I've had that installed in two homes for over a decade, never fried one. But I do also have a whole house surge suppressor at the panel, one of those did fry out one time. I realize there are dozens of ways to control X10 and similar powerline interfaces. I program a CM11-A, running a downloaded set of timers offline to control everything. I use 'activehomevista' to program the CM11A, far superior to any of the original activehome programs, including that it properly handles daylight savings time and automatic adjustments to sunrise/sunset offsets for latitude/longitude.
