I've been a dedicated TFP'r since I bought my first home with a pool.
A good test kit is so vital...it's a non-starter. You just have to have
one or as we all know it's guessing and wasting money.
Now this post is about testing, but in this case not for pools but
for lawn. The entire lawn of my latest home had neglected grass.
It was a green swamp if it was a pool. I had paid a landscaper
to dethatch and aerate and re-seed last year and that improved
things immensely, but one thing I noticed, the lawn on the west
side of the house was barely growing at all compared to the front lawn.
So what did i do? I got a soil test kit!
Here's the results. Everything looks good here (ph of 6.5 slightly acid is
actually normal in my region), but look at the pink vial of nitrogen test.
No Nitrogen! An absolute and vital necessity if you want lush green,
healthy growing lawn.
So I bought some nitrogen fertilizer and did my duty afterwards to
correct this.

Just goes to show, again, without a proper test kit, your doing things blind.
I'd heard that third party soil testing can be a long and potentially expensive
process. I found this kit on amazon for 16 bucks! I think it can do up to 10 tests.
heckuva bargain.
