Wire issue

So some rats decided to make a little cozy home for themselves in my pool heater. These wires that are frayed what are they so I can replace them?

Those are sensor wires with a special heat resistive insulation. You can replace them with same.
This is what it is and you'll just need to crimp new ends on.

I'd say the black one was red once upon a time as the second wire to it is red and it should have the same heat resistive insulation. Go for it.
