Hello,

I am from NJ and in process of closing pool for winter, I have following questions:
1. How much it is necessary to blow main drain? Specially for NJ?
2. I tried to blow main drain using Rigid vacum - blower, however it did not work. I only able to blow skimmer lines.
3. If main drain has to be blown, which would be best blower for this. I heard of "Big blue winter blower" - seems costly though.

Appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Avinash

The cyclone blower is the best one, but not cheap for once a year use.

The drain itself probably doesn’t need to be blown but the plumbing for the drain does at least below the frost line. The only way to know for sure you’ve blown all the water out below the frost line is to blow the entire line and airlock it. So I guess technically that does mean you need to blow the main drain.

Appreciate your response. I usually close pool on my own and borrow (similar to big blue blower) from local pool guy for $40 just to blow main drain.
