Winterizing Hayward heat pump in Texas

Hi,

Just looking for recommendations on winterizing a Hayward heat pump in Texas.

The manual says to:
  • turn off breaker
  • disconnect in/out water connections
  • drain water
  • tilt or blow out with air
  • reconnect in/out water connections
  • cover to prevent snow getting inside

My pump runs 24 x 7, but we can have a few hard freezes here a year, I just want to be sure I'm covered. I do have a bypass valve for the heater.

Is there any reason to reconnect the water connections or can I just put the shipping plugs back in?

It doesn't really snow here very often, so should I cover it or not?

Any other recommendations?

Thanks,
David

If you are confident in your bypass valves, then "NO", you do not have to connect for the winter. If you have a cover for the heater, use it as it protects the elements from wind, sun, etc. If not, entirely up to you what you want to do.
