I live in Oklahoma and it’s getting to that time of year where we get cold temps. My pool has a pump for the main pool and a water feature pump for the sheer descents. Last year I had the freeze protect set to come on at 40 degrees and heated the pool to 45 degrees before an attic storm came through. However our descents still froze up solid. I’d like to winterize just the descents so I can continue to use the hot tub through the winter. I have a 10HP shop vac but I’m not sure what valves need to be closed or what attachments I need to purchase. Any insight would be appreciated!

The pump on the right. I took off the lid and put the shop vac inside the pump and as far as I could into the PVC pipe. The shop vac was in “blow” mode and I could see bubbles coming out in the pool from what appeared to be the returns. After about 15 seconds I switched it to suction mode and kept getting a bunch of water being pulled into the pump. I figured there’s probably some valves I need to close or else it’s just going to keep pulling water but I’m not sure how to figure out which ones.

Red is the suction pipe that pulls water from your pool.
Green is the return pump feeding water to the sheers.
You want to blow out the water from the green pipe and then close the diverter valve.
You want to blow into the red pipe to force the water in the pipe below your thaw line and close the diverter valve. You are not going to suction out water from the red pipe when it is connected to the pool.

You can remove the diverter to blow into the pipe. The member from the other thread could not fit his hose in when he tried that.
