I’m getting ready to install a Jandy valve in a horizontal position (handle parallel to the ground). When winterizing, there appears to be the possibility of a small amount of residual water left in the bottom of the valve. Would the internal valve mechanism be damaged when the small amount of residual water freezes?

I have never taken any steps to winterize my Jandy valves and have never had an issue.
Thanks, @PoolGate. I see you are in MD, so you definitely get some freezing temps. When you winterize, are you blowing air through the lines, as well as adding some rv antifreeze?
My pool is on a slope, so I am able to set up my lines to gravity drain. I wish these Jandy valves had a threaded plug in the bottom, since there is a bit of a bowl in the bottom.

Yep I blow them all out. See video below that I made last season. I add antifreeze really just to the main drain and skimmer lines.
That little puddle of water isn't going to hurt anything. Water freezing is fine as long as it has a space to expand into. This is why you put collapsible canisters in your skimmers.
Freezing water expands about 10%.
If there are some drips in there, they can freeze all the want.
The 'mechanism' is a one piece door and very robust.
