Will a diverter valve hold pressure?

I have a jandy CV340 cartridge filter. I would like to add the ability to vacuum to waste as well as the ability to pump down the pool quickly after a heavy rain. My idea is to add a three-way diverter valve to my drain. So one leg of the diverter valve would go directly to a waist drain pipe and the other leg of the diverter valve would have the standard drain cap placed back on it. So I could either vacuum to waste or just pull the cap off as usual and drain and flush out the filter chamber as usual. I'm just not sure if the diverter valves are designed to hold that much pressure?

My initial thought was sure they can, but in practice, they normally just divert the water from one place to another, so they are never under much pressure.

If you put a three way valve between the pump and the filter, it would allow you to vacuum to waste, or lower the pool level, without going through the filter. No real pressure would be involved.
I am not sure I fully understand where you want to put yours.

The problem I see with using a 3 way diverter the way you describe is it does not have a positive off position. You can rotate the valve past off. In most uses of a 3 way diverter a trickle of water through a closed port is not a problem.

If you need a pipe to be closed you need a valve with a positive off position.

It is the large drain cap on the bottom of the filter. I would add a three-way valve so that one leg would pointing towards that 4-in green pipe for the drain waste and the other leg continuing straight out and replace the cap on the other side of the valve. so in regular running mode the off position would be pointed towards the green pipe drain because that would just have a open pipe going into the drain. I really couldn't find much information on the specs about doing it this way. They have a positive shut off three-way valve but I still think it's designed to work with minimal pressure.

I really didn't want to get into replumbing in between the pump and the filter.
