Why maintain CYA above 50?

If my FC is staying around 4 with a CYA of 50, why raise to 70-80? I understand the effectiveness of FC decreases as CYA increases, so why raise the proportion? Im at 50 CYA hovering around 3.8-4.2 FC every evening.

My PH is around 8, I havent tackled that yet. I will after I focus on FC.

My SWCG recommends 30-50 of CYA, as does my Taylor test kit.

In no way am I doubting TFP, just trying to understand where the 70-80 CYA is coming from.

The name of the game with an SWG is not making it work too hard. You're at 4 or so right now after a long day of sun, but that sun will continue to strengthen as we pass into summer and you're going to have to run your SWG longer and longer to keep up with the higher burn rate.

70-80ppm of CYA will add that much extra protection for your chlorine, and help to lengthen the life of your salt cell by not requiring it to work as hard to keep the levels on target.
