Why K-1000's Tester for Cl maxes out at 5 but TFP's recommendation seems to be 4-6?

Just wondering why the K-1000 testing container only went up to 5 ? It's not that I can't work with it, I guess just curious why if 4-6 is my ideal range, why is that maxing out the range on the container? :)

Thanks in advance!

That is the limitations of that type of test.

You should use the FAS-DPD test for accurate FC testing. The K1000 test is mainly a 'yes there is chlorine in the water' test. It is not accurate enough for managing FC.

Take care.

Because that test just isn't that accurate, too subjective. I might see 5, where you think 3. Yet the drop test (FAS-DPD) is exact and there is no subjective color matching.

Most of us just use that K-1000 tester for the pH, or just a spot check that we *do* have some chlorine in there, but not sure how much.

Honestly, I don't ever use the K-1000 and wouldn't mind if it was taken out of the TF100 kit altogether. For me, taking even the small amount of time to confirm "yes, there is chlorine in the water" is a waste of time. I can confirm there is some FC AND get an accurate reading of how much using the DPD drop test which is very quick with a speedstir and some experience.

That the other classes test and it's almost worthless, don't waste your time with it, one use is when you test high (like 15 FC) FC with fas/dpd and it seems odd you can use the other test and it will show burnt irage and you have two sources that show FC is high and not testing error

Thanks mk... I actually do use the FAS-DPD test most of the time and definitely much more accurate. Just to confirm, am I correct that I should be shooting for 4-6 FC for my SWG vinyl pool?
