Why is my pool cloudy?

I keep FC at 5, adding liquid chlorine in the evening and running the pump all night.
The water is cloudy and the pool gets dirty on the bottom very quickly. Is it because the pH and TA are on the high end? I usually need to add around 2 1/2 quarts of bleach each day. The pool is uncovered and gets used everyday.

Also, is it normal for dirty water to come out of the pump into the pool when you first turn it on? It’s just for a second, but frustrating when you have just vacuumed the pool. It does this even after I have backwashed the filter.

Not sure what else to do to get back to crystal clear water.

Your other thread that you last posted in May you were doing the SLAM process. Did you complete that to meeting all three criteria? I assume you are not using the test kit you show in your signature as you cannot do the SLAM process with that.

Cloudy water with recurring dead algae on the floor of the pool means you need to follow the SLAM Process to completion.

Yes, I did complete the SLAM and the pool was beautiful and crystal clear. Sadly we went out of state for a week, and I had a girl adding a set amount of chlorine each day. Clearly it wasn’t enough because we came home to a slightly green pool. I got it back to clear, but must not have gotten rid of all the algae. Is that possible?

I will slam it again, after this thunderstorm!

I do have the proper Taylor test kit now.

So I just tested and the FC level is five, so the Chlorine I added last night has not been used up. Do I still SLAM to get rid of the algae that comes back everyday in the wrinkles of the liner? Is that normal?
