Why does more dirt show up after I’ve vacuumed?

I vacuum my spa and the next morning there’s lots of stuff that has appeared even though it wasn’t used and I have to vacuum again. I searched and all I could find was that it can be due to a filter not working, usually because it’s dirty. Mine gets rinsed after use and deep cleaned every 4 weeks or so.
I’m stumped. Any ideas?

Interesting.
Which brings up another question -when I shock do I have to add a lot to get it up high like 10 or more for a bromine reading and then let it come back down, or can I add just enough to get it into the ideal range of 4 to 6 ppm?

I use both MPS and Dichlor.

Agree - you likely have algae growing. What are your levels, and what are you using to test? If it's algae, I'd venture to guess that your FC levels are going down, and you'd see some CC.

I thought it was dirt because it's brown, not green. I searched and found this-
Brown Algae
Often brownish gray, this scum could be caused by a mineral like iron reacting in your water (I don't think that's our problem) or it could mean that the pH level is too high. Oftentimes treating the water with a pH decreaser will resolve the issue. If this type of algae is a recurring problem, try to maintain your pH at the lower end of 7.2-7.4 for a few months.

What size spa?

Please put details of your spa in your signature.

Why not just dump the water in the spa and refill it and start fresh?

It’s 375 gallons. The TDS is 900. I usually go to 1500 but I’ll drain. I had no idea there was brown algae that would sink to the bottom -I figured algae would just give your water a green tint.
