why does acid kill both Ph and alkalinity

The key to the methods advocated on TFP are proper water testing and knowing what to do with those test results. This means not using mystery miracle cures from the pool store and blindly dumping whatever the pool store tells you. You need to know what you are adding and why you are adding it. Where possible, using less expensive grocery store alternatives is an added benefit of knowing "what you are adding."

One example of this benefit is chlorine. Because we understand that liquid chlorine at the pool store and bleach at the grocery store are both sodium hypochlorite we know that we can use them in place of each other. This does not mean that we can only buy bleach at Walmart. It means we want to understand why the bleach at walmart is a good choice. I personally use chlorine from the pool store because I am lucky enough to have a neighborhood pool store that carries 12.5% at a great price.

Thanks for having my back, guys

I'm sorry, scott6824, I did mean exactly what the guys are saying; save money by buying bleach but go get it somewhere else if WW is out. You do need to purchase from just one place, and you need to keep at it to produce results.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear, but these guys clarified my post before I saw your response, so you are back on track!
