White waterline tile - Good or bad idea?

Palm Springs
So glad I found this amazing resource! We will be adding a spa with an overflow & a tanning shelf, and are replastering with Arctic White Pebble Sheen in April. We like the idea of replacing the baby blue waterline tile with white tile for our mid-century modern home, but were wondering if anyone could share their experience. Is it a good idea, because hides the calcium build-up, which happens quickly here in Palm Springs due to the water being very hard. Or is it a bad idea, because it shows the dust, debris and tanning oils etc. more. Any advice from someone with white tile in a similar environment would be greatly appreciated? TIA

I love my waterline tile, I don’t have water in my pool yet though so can’t speak to any issues

Our pool is still under construction; we went with NPT Slate White waterline tile. I really like how it looks with the Silver Travertine coping.

Update now that we have water in the pool.

I love the way the blue water/plaster reflects on the tiles.

Hi, did you end up using the white pool tile? I'm struggling with the same decision

I am still happy with the white waterline tile. To me, it gives the whole pool a high-end look. So far the only issues I’ve had were calcium buildup on the dark grout lines. It has been minor but I imagine dark tiles would drive me nuts!

I happen to be in the hot tub right now so here’s a shot after 3.5 months. I’ve used a razor knife twice to scrape away calcium/salt and made a pass with a magic eraser once to clean grime from the tiles.

We too chose NPT White Slate tile. It’s white with a bit of grey in it.
