White Water Mold

Just curious if high chlorine levels are all that is needed to fix White Water Mold?

I just replaced the liner in my pool 2 weeks ago and I filled the pool with water, shocked it and completed forgot to check everything else. Two weeks later there is what looks like white tissue paper all over the place. After researching this, it seems that I have white water mold. I dumped 20L of chlorine in the pool, but I wanted to check here to see if all I need to do is keep the chlorine high for a bit to get rid of this, or if there is a better way?

Any help would be appreciated.

First thing I would do is an OCLT. That will tell us if we are dealing with mold/algae or something else. Can you do that? Instructions here --> Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

You indicate you have a hayward chlorinator. Are you using pucks to chlorinate? Please post a full set of test results with your TF-100.

Posting pictures also really help us help you.

Hey JT !!!!

It could easily be enviornmemtal as Canada is so late to the blooming party every spring.

Do you have any cottonwoods or similar nearby ?

Sorry, I didn't realize I had any replies, I was not being notified as I was supposed to be.

@Newdude - No, I don't have any cottonwoods nearby.
@PoolStored - I will do a full list of tests and update shortly. I will also follow your OCLT instructions. NO --- Liquid chlorine. However, I did use some extra pucks that I had laying around about 1 week ago when I ran out of chlorine. Water started getting a bit cloudy, so I threw 5 pucks in an then got liquid chlorine. Two days ago, I dumped 20L of liquid chlorine in (it's cheaper than buying bleach up here).

thank you

I've run all the tests...

FC = 15ppm
CC = 0.5ppm
TA = 90 (was 120 earlier but added muriatic acid)
PH = 6.8 (was 8.1 earlier but added muriatic acid)
* Added 1.5kg of BORAX to raise PH again and stabilize PH

I see that with 0.5ppm there is some organics in the pool and will maintain the 11+ ppm of FC until those are gone as per SLAM'ing the pool.

I don't see any more white film (tissue paper looking stuff) anymore.

Great Job! My pool runs up to .5 CC all the time.

SLAM exit criteria (ALL THREE)
1) <=1 FC loss overnight (OCLT)
2) <= .5 CC
3) Clear pool, no dead algae, no detritus, nothing.

Good luck, you got this!!!

.5 CC is either normal or acceptable testing error.

PH testing is invalid at 10+ FC. Always wait until it drifts down to a single digit. Also, when you adjust PH, keep it in the high 7s if it wants to keep climbing. It will likely be more stable there. If you force it to make a big swing, like any swing, it will come back with a vengeance.

Slam level for your cya of 20ppm is 10- going way over just wastes chlorine so just try to replenish 10ppm as often as u can.
You’re getting there. Keep going until u pass ALL 3 end of slam criteria 👍🏻

*Check & scrub every nook & cranny where it may hide (light niches, drain covers, ladder handrails, skimmer throats/weirs, etc.)
*Run slam level water through all water features & lines for at least a couple hours a day during the SLAM Process.
*Brush & or vac daily (this breaks up biofilms that algae uses to protect itself from chlorine)
*Backwash/clean filter when pressure rises 25%over clean pressure.
