White stuff floating in hot tub

Hello,
We have had our pool (new build) almost a full year. In the last month I have found this white stuff floating in the spa. It’s not calcium bc it isn’t coming from a return jet and I always keep my pool slightly negative. When I brush it it comes up or when the kids play it stirs up. There isn’t any in the main pool. It’s soft and beaks up like a soft wax. At first I thought it was sunscreen but it’s been going on a few weeks now. Any ideas?

That does look odd.

Does your spa overflow all the time? Can you collect any of it? If so, try a drop of acid on it.

Yes it overflows all the time. I took one of the return jets offs and found a bunch of crispy flakes in it. It was only in one and not the other and not in any in the pool. The water is warmer in the spa then the pool but I always try to keep my csi negative. Check pool daily and check full chemicals including calcium weekly. So I’m gathering this is calcium but my calcium is low.

I could explain it if you had a SWCG, but I assume you add liquid chlorine to the pool every day to chlorinate as your signature does not show a SWCG.

Yes sir, I add liquid daily.

could high salt be forming from adding liquid chlorine daily? We have a heavy pool load so we use about 4-5 ppm chlorine a day. Could my heater be corroded despite keeping a neg csi? Today took off the return jet caps and turned the pump on high and it’s shooting out flakes out of the return jets in the spa.

The salt level would have to above 300,000 ppm to not dissolve. That is not possible.

No.
Some combination of higher TA, high water temperature, etc is allowing the creation of scale. As long as it is just flakes. not a big issue.
