Hello everyone,
Pictures were too large to attach so I created the below link

These white stains appeared on the pool steps, rubbing them with a steel brush does not seem to be helping much.

The picture at the deep end shows some spots, but not as concerning as the steps.

Does anyone know what are these white stains? Is there a way to get rid of them.

I add a gallon of chlorine every 2 days, and shock as needed, but I let the PH go up for some time (I know I shouldn't do this)

Thanks for the help

Your PoolMath logs only show chemical additions and no test results for well over a year.

How are you testing your water?

Please post a fresh set of test results from one of the recommended test kits. Please do NOT post pool store test results, they are generally worthless.

I am adding chlorine but sometimes I forget to enter it on the app.

Test results. I use a kit recommended here to use when slamming

Liquid chlorine is great. Solid forms of chlorine and other pool chemicals can stain/bleach surfaces.
I mostly add liquid chlorine at the deep end, never add at the steps because they are shallow. I make sure pump is running while adding chemicals.

I am suspecting they are calcuim deposits, but I am not really sure.

Should I start using calcium stain remover? There is one from Orenda

If the white discoloration is calcium scale, it would be rough to the touch. Try that and compare to non white areas.
Do you know what the original color of the new plaster was? Name?
Try sanding the white areas using 80 grit wet&dry sandpaper sheets. That will be much more effective than a steel brush or other chemical treatments.
You can sand the plaster underwater or drain the pool down a little. But a little water while sanding is best.

I believe it is Pebble or some kind of stones/glass mixed in so it is all rough to the touch. Can I still sand it?
it is not new, pool was finished in 2021. Never had similar issues before (had multiple other issues, including black algae). I was using scale preventer but stopped a year ago.
I have a whole house water softener, so calcium hardness should be stable in the pool
This current white spots started happening when the steps were covered in little bit of green algae, water was clear, but the steps had some deposits. When I brushed them as I always do with no issues, they left this white residue.
People don't really notice it and they always comment how clean and clear the pool is, but it is driving me crazy seeing it everytime I maintain the pool.
