I am having same problem...Florida pool, plaster
13,000 gallon pool
SWG
CYA 70-80
TA kept around 100-120
ph 7.6
FC=6-8
CH=450

I noticed it last year when I started getting more aggressive with bicarb as I was letting the TA drop to 30-40 and thought that was too low. Now I add bicarb to get TA 100-120. Now I noticed a lot of small white dandruff like flakes in the pool....it does accumulate on floor by the water pump returns.

so sounds like I should let the TA fall back to 70 or less?

Do you use Poolmath? You need to monitor CSI. Keeping it slightly negative, along with keeping the TA under 90 ppm, should reduce / eliminate the shedding of calcium flakes from your SWCG when the polarity reverses.

Yes. Thanks for the response.

The flakes quickly dissolved with rapid drop in PH and the TA 30-40 range.

I will start adding less bicarb each time TA is low ( I used to add 10 lb slugs when it dropped below 80 or 90). And I will let the TA get to 40 or 50 before adding bicarb.

Thanks for your help!
