White Flakes from Pentair IC-60

Around 12+ months ago my IC-60 SWG has been creating white flakes and it feels like it’s getting worse over time. The initial 24 months there were no issues and then it somehow started and not sure why it started.

Is this common and is there any way to minimize or eliminate it ? The pool is stating fill up with the flakes and they’re hard to remove them from the pool.

I clean the SWG every 3-4 months.

Post a full set of results: FC, CC, pH, TA, CH, CYA, Salt.

Likely reducing your TA, CH and pH will help eliminate flakes.

Do you use pool math?

Why is it necessary to clean the SWG so often?

What do you find the condition of the plates are?

My pool guy recommended 3-4 months cleaning cycle.

Plates definitely have some build up.

I don't. I have a Home kit but go to Lesli's on a regular basis and that worked well for me. Last time my levels were very good

Your pool guy is causing you to decrease the life of your cell.

There are less damaging ways of cleaning a cell. Read SWG How It Works - Further Reading

If I were to believe your test results, which I do not, I would say they are not good.

Your CYA level is low for a SWG pool

Your CH is low for a plaster pool.

Your TA is high which is causing the scaling in your SWG.

You can do better but need to get your own test kit.

You have been here for five years. You can decide if you want to adopt TFP methods.

Great advice - let me read through it and see what I can do to minimize the flakes and improve my water balance
