Pump runs fine when on, but through the common wall between bedroom and pool room there is a high pitch whininh noise that goes on for hours. Looking at equipment I cant locate the problem. There is some spa volume loss every night, fills back up afte pump turns back on in am. Any thoughts?

500,

If the spa drains down when the pump is off, then you most likely have a bad check valve in the Return path..

I suspect that the leaking check valve is what you are hearing.

Show us a pic of your equipment pad and we can show you the suspect valve.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Sounds like a whistle caused by air or water running through a small opening. Or some debris in a pipe acting like a reed in an instrument.

You have a stethoscope? Or take a water glass and put the open end on different surfaces with your ear to the glass and see if you can isolate the area the sound is coming from.

I replaced a backflow/check valve about a year ago, seem in pic 2, and it helped but didnt stop the volume loss

500.

I believe the red handle is what shuts off the spa waterfall and the black knob is some old type of check valve..

That said, your plumbing is a challenge to understand so I could be wrong. I would test this idea by shutting off the red valve and seeing if the spillover stops.. If it does, leave it that way overnight and if the spa does not drain down, then I am correct. If not, I am just full of bull stuff...

Where does the white pipe lead to?

The back flow preventer can whistle when water is running.

That valve looks like a fill line to me as well. It has an anti-siphon valve on it which can make noise when water flows through it. The noise could also be coming from the turn off valve as well if it does not completely shut off the flow a small amount could be squeezing through when the pump is off causing the noise.

If you leave the fill on for too long, the pool will overflow.

If it's a fill line, you might also have an overflow line and you're just adding and losing water at the same time.

You really need to figure out what everything does.

Go check the water meter to see if it starts running when the valve is open.
