Where should I drain pool water?

Just curious - where do you guys drain your water to? I usually run a hose out to the street but always feel a bit awkward crossing the sidewalk. I try to only do it when it is raining out anyway so there are not a lot of people walking.

It might depend on where you live. In my area you are only allowed to drain to the sewer and not the street.

A lot of people just ignore the rule and normally don't get caught...

Most municipal areas have rules/requirements on where to drain pool water. Many it is to the sewer cleanout. Check your city/county websites for what they require.

I did the same as you for many years just ran a house out to the street, directly into the sewer drain in front of my house. I had the same guilt about covering the sidewalk, but draining was often in early fall or through winter draining my cover she it is really only the old lady w walker that I worried about!. I recently did a pretty large yard drainage upgrade so now I have several grates in my backyard that tie directly to street drainage so now only requires a 10 foot or so run from the pool.

My pool drains into the same system as my gutters and I assume the storm sewer but never had a reason to find out.

I am two lots so have a decent sized yard. When I backwash, I just direct it to the yard.

If I am draining pool, I have a 100 foot hose I attach to my sump pump and drain directly to street gutter.
