When shocking, what does the Shock Target specify?

When using the Pool math calculator from this website (old version)...., what does the Shock Target specify? ounces?

Do you need to follow the SLAM Process?
The shock level FC needed to maintain during a SLAM is shown in ppm. Based on your pool volume and Now versus Target FC, the calculator will provide you how many ounces of liquid chlorine (based on what % you specifiy) to add to reach the Target FC.
