What's your current pool temp?

78, and its been in the 50's at night, still!!!! I had it up to 83 with the heat pump on saturday. And..we are having a nor'easter, in JUNE!!!!!

80's on the way thursday? So says Harvey on channel 5. Uhhhgggg. Will it ever stop raining?

Belldiver, it does make a difference. We were out at 10PM last night in 90 degree water stargazing. The air seemed cool (the solar panel sensor said 76) and dry enough that I did not run a cooling cycle last night during the night. Above ground pools usually lose a a few degrees at night if the air temp is significantly cooler than the water (which I thought it was). Big mistake. Just like you, it started at 88 this morning, I have the solar array off, and no cover, and adding cool water, fountain running all day for evaporative cooling. but even then, it is going to be a bit toasty this afternoon. We'll be running that cooling cycle tonight.
Update: We kept it to 90 degrees with all the different cooling apparatus going all day.

I use this chrome thermometer: http://www.intheswim.com/Pool-Accessori ... ermometer/
It hangs down in the water under the ladder, so it is not so affected by the sun. I have the floating shark, but it read consistently low. so it is now in a cabinet. I also have the thermometer built into my solar system, but it is affected by the sun and wind, so I have to make adjustments for that. It also depends on whether the pump is running or not.. I am pretty confident with the chrome thermometer that it is close enough for my purposes.

Four days of the solar blanket on 8 hours during the day and on all night and I was up to 80* today! Now that's more like it! MaMa's going swimmin tomorrow!

You can have some of our heat. We have enough to share with everyone, and then some. 102 today, expecting up to 103 tomorrow. I did not run the cooling cycle enough last night, so there I was with the fountain again today to keep it the water at 90 degrees. It cost me 1/2" of water. I will be running the cooling array all night tonight (that's my new name for the solar panels that we do not even turn on during the day now). And we have something called Temperature Humidity Index, kind of like the reverse of wind chill, where the guy on the weather says that it's only 100 but it "feels like" 110. "No kidding" I think as I schlep bleach across the Walmart parking lot. My solar sensor is reading 116 degrees right now, and it is only 10:30am.
I grew up in Minnesota, been in Texas for 20 years and every summer I am still surprised at how hot it gets. "Like 7 inches from the midday sun."

We've only swam once this year (opened the first week of May) and at that time, the water temp was a balmy 69*.

Currently 64* with a possible break in the weather tomorrow. I haven't even been able to fully test our solar panels yet.

Do any of you in the south wonder why us Canadians(Northern U.S) even bother with a pool?
Its almost July and friends a just opening this weekend!!
Well, I was kinda' wondering if you were members of the polar bear club

It's spending the winter cooped up that makes us crazy!!

Warm weather is finally here. Up to 84 yesterday with only solar blanket use.

We hit at least 100 today...full sun plus humidity. Heat index of at least 108. It takes your breath away, and leaves you drained. Pool water was 93 degrees at 6:00 this afternoon, if an Intellitouch can be believed. Didn't check it earlier...I was too busy baking biscuits on my coping.

You GO, Casey!! You've had some major stress lately and DESERVE a nice warm swim and a nice frosty adult beverage or three!! :whoot: :sun: :sun:

84 degrees and very nice - but loaded with fluffy tree pollen from baumagallian(sp?) trees - it looks like it is snowing here. That stuff should have fallen a month ago but the cool weather delayed it. Nice water temps though, I'm swimming and skimming at the same time.

I guess ideal pool temp is what you get used to! Here in Eastern Canada, with my propane heater and solar blanket, I keep it at 77 this time of year, which we find quite nice! In mid-summer, with no need for the heater, it can get up to 84, which I find too warm. When that happens, we keep the solar cover off overnight and let it cool down! My ideal temp is 80 (27 Celsius)- which southerners would find to be too cold. We keep the pool at swimming temperature from June 1st (sometimes earlier if the weather cooperates) through mid-September (and possibly the occasional weekend after that), so we get about 3 1/2 months of swimming, which is well worth the effort, in my opinion. Propane bills run about $600, about half of it during the initial 'burn'. We consider this to be a reasonable price for a summer's worth of entertainment. Have considered solar, but all that extra plumbing to fix just isn't worth it for me.

Northern pool survival tips: In addition to bleach for sanitation, I use a non-chlorinated shock (potassium monopersulfate) to eliminate down-time during our short season, so that the pool is always swimmable - the level of chlorine stays constant and there is no waiting for it to come down from shock level. It costs a bit more (I use one or two $60 tubs a season, shocking bi-weekly in the off-season, and weekly in mid-summer), but it maximizes the use of the pool, the water always sparkles, and the money saved by using BBB means I am still way ahead of what others pay for chemicals at the pool store.
A solar blanket is essential here, and stays on whenever the pool is not is use, unless it is sunny and there is no wind.

I loved every bit of it! I even had to go in and tell DH to get his butt out there and feel how warm the pool was! He said, WOW! 8)

I put the solar cover back on last night and it'll stay on til 4:30 when I get home. Let's see what it is today! :-D I love it!
