What’s Best Install Method for Skimmer Butterfly Gasket?

Hoping to finish my diy install tomoro of our new 12x24 agp. Pools up, 3 ft of water with no water loss for 2 days now. Tomoro is skimmer/return and plumbing hookup.

widemouth skimmer came with the butterfly gasket .. I’ve read and searched tonnes about the diff ways to install it. Instructions state faceplate-gasket-liner-wall-gasket-skimmer body.

I’ve read some people do faceplate-liner-gasket-wall-gasket-skimmer because it’s easier and better to install skimmer then cut liner, otherwise I have to cut the liner first then install skimmer.

Help! What’s everyone do?

I drained below the planned opening and cut my liner first. I didn't want to try to split the gasket and risk ruining it.

Ok thanks. Curious did you attach the faceplate/skimmer then cut liner opening then remove skimmer and reattach with gasket?

Or did you use the wall opening as a template to cut liner first then attach everything?

if i remember correctly, i put the faceplate on, then i traced the inside of the opening. then cut the liner, installed gasket and then the skimmer body.

I did the same as chayne. Put both the skimmer and faceplate on, cut the liner using an Exacto knife, removed the skimmer and faceplate, put the gasket on and buttoned it all up. I used the tip of the blade as a drill for the screw holes.

ok good to know, definitely gonna install like you guys have with the gasket sandwiching the wall and liner.
