What tools would you need to install a backwash hose?

I have a 3" pipe, and I was wondering if just attaching the hose would be sufficient or is there something else I have to do? Also is it possible to convert it from 3" to 2" since I noticed those hoses are cheaper.

I assume you are talking about a flexible hose. I just use a hose clamp. All you need is the clamp and a screwdriver. You can either do it on the 3" pipe or on a section of 2" pipe you glue to the reducer in the @ajw22 link.
