What material is my pool?

Welcome to the forum.
Looks like fiberglass. Might have been applied over an old gunite pool. Is it the same through out the pool.

It's definitely field applied fiberglass.

You can tell from the fibers.

It might have been applied over gunite or maybe a fiberglass shell.
Ahh, of course. The fibers--it's so obvious now!

I needed to know what material my pool is so I can move onto the next step: addressing the high level of CYA. Currently, my CYA is at 140 ppm. I want to partial drain my pool to start treatment, but with any inkling that my pool was fiberglass I was hesitant based on what I read. Now that I know the pool is gunite with fiberglass, would you it's safe to proceed?

I doubt in San Jose you have shallow ground water regardless, unless you are right on the bay.

How are you testing your pool water chemistry?

Nope, I'm more inland! I took a sample in to get tested at the local Leslie's and that's the result they came back with. I have a Taylor K-2006 coming soon, so I can test more thoroughly on my own, as I'm not sure how accurate Leslie's is.
