What is this?

Also it’s color coded 😂 one scoop powder in 5 mls add drops and count. Cannot fathom this! I’d lose my license if I made med mistakes like this! I’m accurate to a fault!
You just got some new liquid chlorine correct?
Where’d you get it? (a pic is fine)
There have been reports of more potent than listed chlorine batches a few times this season.
If you’re still using this new batch,
For your next dose do just as poolmath says & after 30 minutes do the test with a 5ml sample (each drop equals 1ppm) and let us know what results you get.
If we can confirm its the chlorine you can just adjust the % in pool math to help you calculate more accurately going forward with this batch.

Just got home and now I got a reading of 22. So I’m leaving it there and I’ll check in the morning for loss. Yes I was using a new batch spouse got at Leslie’s - it almost seemed if I tested it 2-3 hours after it was crazy high but after that it’s ok. image.jpg

I can’t fathom trying to tackle the stains- you have to bring fc to zero right?
That's a project for when the water is cold like just before closing or early spring for sure when the water can handle a low FC level.

My husband wants to fill it in with dirt lol. But I’m in CHARGE NOW… also maybe time for a new liner while we’re still working. This one is 10 yrs and served us well. Amd now that I’m an expert I can prevent staining in the future. (High ph and high FC right?) any other causes? Algaecide🤮never again. Keep that water balanced !

Correct. Also the amount of metals in the water (iron or copper). The higher the content the easier it is to react with the pH and FC. Copper (i.e algaecides and "Blue" products) are generally the worst because there's no way to remove it other than exchanging water. If it's iron (well or some city water), sometimes you can use a process with polyfill to help filter (capture) the iron to help eliminate the material and reduce the likelihood of it happening again.

If the liner or steps have wide-spread staining, there's an Ascorbic Acid process that can lift the stains from the liner, but then the owner has to determine what to do with the water that is filled with the lifted metal. If it's copper, it needs to be exchanged. If it's iron, either exchange it or try to filter.

About the ladder, can you get in & take a peek under the treads that are in the water?
As for the stains, finding the source is imperative- it will help you determine if you can eventually become sequestrant free or not. The path can be different for everyone. For some its an ongoing process due to their fill water.
As Tex said, Algae first and stains later..

Got the ladder out . I see 2-3 pin holes in my entry steps wondering if the sootI see is coming from there. Would soot use up chlorine? I didn’t see the installation/ do they typically put steps right over dirt or is there vinyl under? W decided our liner is 13 years old we are replacing it in spring so I’ll live with the yellow liner. Looks awful but my fault- added algecode and metal out while shocking thanks Leslie

That's the ladder from your deep end right? Steel ladder with a couple steps submerged? If so, yes! Glad you pulled it out. Flush it then if you can't take the steps apart for better access, use a syringe or turkey baster to inject some chlorine directly into those holes. Let it sit for a few, rinse with water, then perhaps repeat. Those can be algae traps for sure.

I stopped at light house they have nothing to patch these 3 tiny cracks. These are 30 year old steps. That stain is not soot I’ve scrubbed it and tried vitamin c. So advise please what to use. This morning since fc was 20 I added the advised amount and now 5 hrs later it’s 20.
HOWEVER I Remeasured cya I believe it’s 50 now. I got 40,50,45,50,50 so I’m going with 50.
Regardless still losing FC and I’ll now try and keep it at 20. Very sunny again but cooler. I’ll test again at dark.

The stain on the blue area (vinyl) looks like iron to me (rust). If not from something that sat on the surface, perhaps something behind/below bleeding through? See if a magnet will stick to it.

The white area are steps I assume? Those looks like cracks and perhaps material is bleeding through. If Vitamin C doesn't work, try rubbing a chlorine tablet in the area.
