My vision isn’t good enough, but the only thing I could imagine this is would be a pool fill line? It’s towards the water line at the shallow end of the pool. If so, why would it be closed/blocked off and where would it be controlled from?

Thoughts?

My pool has the same thing. My cap is screwed on. The line is plumbed from the pool to the pumps but it's not connected to any pump.
That's because I have a self cleaning pool. They added the line "just in case" someone wanted to add a vacuum I guess.
Is your pool a popup cleaning pool?

Super interesting- never even heard of that. Just read about it though. Does it work well?

Our system is not a pop up cleaning pool, but we do have a booster and robot that are plumbed and operating well on the other side of the pool. So I guess this was just optionality.

I was watching Grease and Sandy said that Danny Zuko was a gentleman and Rizzo says "There ain't no such thing", which is what a "self cleaning" pool is, as far as I'm concerned. But, it's what I've got.

Mine is decades old where the plastic rotating gears keep breaking as do the rubber seals. Nowadays, they probably are electronic but mine is 100% water pressure from its own pump (which also, paradoxically, runs the skimmers).

My advice?
The old style (like mine) I wouldn't recommend.

I don't know if they make a new style.
