What is this knob next to drain in spa?

Hi all, Newly finished remodel with a question…we had three drains in our pool and spa (2 in spa and one in pool) before remodel. All 3 were basic round drains. We had a choice of splitting them or installing channel drains. We chose channel. Two (one in pool and one in the cool dip surrounding spa) now have channel but the spa was split with one round drain on bottom and one on side. The bottom one has this knob. What is it? Doesn’t seem like it’ll feel good under your feet…

PB coming later today so I will ask just wanted thoughts here too. So many experienced eyes in these threads!

THANK YOU!

You said you had two in the spa. Looking at the first picture, I'm assuming that's the entirety of the spa I'm seeing, with one drain in the circular area and one in the step-down area? And then that's the pool peeking in on the right side?

If the above is correct, it might be a hydrostatic drain plug? Or a capped off pipe, but that only makes sense if there was a pipe there already. Either way, I wouldn't be super happy about it just hanging out like that. At a minimum, they could have built up the plaster in that area to make it less of a toe hazard.

Thank you KCNM. The spa has two drains in circular area and one channel in cool dip. The PB said it was a hydrostatic plug and it was there before and yes, totally agree it would have been nice to have been given a chance to address the way it sticks up. Chalk it up to one more lesson learned. All in all, I'm pleased with the results of everything, but def not 100%. Trying to not dwell on every detail. We don't stand in the spa much at all. But I'll also ask him if there's a different type of cap that won't be so hard on the toes. Thanks for the reply!

First time pool install here... that is interesting you mention not being 100%, but trying not to dwell on every detail. That's where I'm at, overall my guys did a good job, but def not very detail oriented. So now I'm stuck with trying to figure out what 'details' I should press them on. I honestly had a better experience with my home builder in that we (the Builder and I) had pretty much the same expectations on quality and what looked good and what didn't. I marked a few loose or uneven deck tiles and my PB, well what's the problem here? or my beautiful teal plumbers pipe sticking out, my guy seems to think it looks fine. At what point do I lower my standards and accept the job as is? and at what point do I say - Look we paid a lot of money to have you guys build us this exact pool, so I expect things to be done to some level of standard that matched the rest of the house.....
