What is causing my belly clamp to corrode?

This one time, at band clamp...

In April 2009, Hayward introduced the cast aluminum band clamp part number DEX2421JKIT.

Most of the time, aluminum is fairly corrosion resistant. However, sometimes it begins to corrode and when it does it can really get bad.

I would suggest sanding and painting it to reduce further corrosion.

If you plan on painting it you will need to use an aluminum etching primer for your top coat to stick. Aluminum is notorious for being hard to get paint to stick.

Cheap cast parts like that can be prone to that type of corrosion due to impurities in the casting.
