What I thought were old iron stains on my cartridge filters, is iron my water!

Day 3
Morning report..Pool is clear, No discoloration of the polyfill. pH is 7.2, psi 13, and temp is 58 so I turned on the heater. And turned on the waterfall for more free feng shui. I added what I had left of my box of Borax (12oz) and its off to the store for 20 more Mules and more tequila for my café mañana Mexicana.

Don’t raise ph too
Much too fast

If you can find a cal hypo puck (not easy to find unfortunately), you can add one to the poly fill inside the skimmer to help force iron precipitation there once you begin to re-chlorinate the water. The high pH and concentrated chlorine inside the skimmer’s small volume will help iron to come out of solution. It’s not required but it’s a nice little trick to do if you can pull it off.
Poolife NST Tablets

Not cheap, but there they are.

Day 4
Morning report: Pool was cloudy this morning.. just like the MM instructions said would happen. The temp had dropped to 58-ish again over night so I fired up the heater for a bit and got it back to 65... I added some borax to get the pH up to 7.5 and started the rechlorination process. Off to work and I will check things when I get back.

Day 5
G-Morning campers: FC 5, CC .5, pH 7.5, Pool is still cloudy (so I guess I don't pass the OCLT, even if I use my really big quarter ;)), and filter pressure is up a pound. Pool temp is 62F. SWG is still off. Gonna let it ride. There is no change I can perceive in the hue of the plaster or other stains that have lightened since the initial AA additions.. I guess those will take time or that is it.

As the attention of a curmudgeonly man's fancy is distracted from his puddle of water.. He surveys the domain he calls his backyard. Look a butterfly! The flowers are in bloom. Dang dogs crapped on the lawn again..."HEY! you neighbor kids, Quiet Down.. you're disturbing my moment!"

Day 6
FC was 4-ish and pH 7.5, filter psi has not changed a lot, SWG off, I added about 1/3 gal of chlorine.. The water was still hazy but looked like it was starting to clear.

Tomorrow I will have the weekend to pull the filters and see if there is anything of note. I was expecting to go through 3 or 4 gallons of Chlorine this week to react with the residual AA by now, maybe its started to stabilize. Perhaps I will turn the SWG back on. I might even don my wetsuit and dive the pool... cause I ain't getting in willingly when its still in the 60's!

Day 7
FC 5-ish, pH 7.5, temp 59 so I added 5 degrees, SWG still off, still cloudy but seems to be clearing.
I cleaned off the filters, there was some fine sandy stuff.. is that the crystalline entities?
This is really boring.. I know... At this point I am only going to post if I see something significant happen.
yawn🥱😴💤

" Mom why is dad leaning over the pool and staring at the water, getting worried its been 6 hours" :)

El Gran Patron Platinum, of course... except for today.. I got my shot and I am convalescing with Crown Royal.
I’m a whiskey girl, not much of a tequila fan (except margaritas, of course) but I got to taste a few top tier tequilas when I was in Austin for a work thing last year (just prior to lockdown). It was a revelation!

2nd shot tomorrow afternoon for me, I’m sure I’ll be looking for something for medicinal purposes.

Day 8, 9, 10
Well it seemed to be chugging along just fine.... UNTIL! ...

My chem levels are boringly stable, pH ~7.5, Dropping about 1ppm FC/day, turn on heater to add a few degrees and get it back to 65F, No biggie. But starting Day 8 It seemed like it was getting more cloudy instead of less. Sure enough this morning my pool is experiencing the full on louche Ouzo Effect. (I have to keep the mixed drink alcohol references going here!). I am having visions of AA and MM micro warriors battling it out at Thermopylae.. I always hallucinate about warring city states when Greek liquor is involved, but I digress. There is a fine power building up on the steps, and the filter pressure is starting to creep up. Some pics for your eyes.

Louche pool.. there is a pool sweep down there somewhere:

I popped my SWG off and gave it its annual blast with the hose. Iron on the inside of my pipes:

Day 11
Today the Ouzo Pool is more cloudy, and there are more sandy crystalline entities piling up on the steps... I have had a Coopers Hawk working on a singles pad each spring in the oaks above my yard for a few years. This year he has been busily dating his new girl friend and its fun to watch them chase each other in a game of amorous tag, zigzagging through the tree branches. Man, they are maneuverable. So, what does this have to do with my pool... nothing. But its my view while sipping my coffee from the side of my milky colored pool at the moment.
