What do you use to blow the lines?

I used to use a shop vac exhaust and I would jam it into the stanchion for the skimmer and the returns. That was a pain because i needed 2 people, one to hold the blower and one to see when the pipe was clear (no line of sight from the filter). This year I hooked up an auto tire compressor to the pump basket and blew the lines, I just don't trust that I blew the line completely. I was looking at the cyclone blower but the price is a little up there at $350. What can you recommend? Thanks.

Buy the cyclone. I was also skeptical but it’s SO much better than a shop vac and makes an air compressor look like a child’s toy. I’m panning to use it for my sprinkler lines this year also.

I'm not convinced it'll work on sprinkler line the same way it works on the pool. In the sprinkler setup each solenoid valve controls several heads and I don't think the cyclone has that capacity.

I’ve got about an acre and it blows out heads a pretty good distance away. Does work faster if you can remove the head farthest down the line.

What will I need to connect it to the piping? I would like to screw it onto the pipes for returns and skimmers directly. I have 2 pics, the jandy valve connects to my filter in while the other is the output to the returns. I see the hose adapter is included from in the swim (1.5 inch piping) (https://intheswim.com/p/cyclone-3-hp-liner-vacuum-and-pool-line-blower/903015.html), I will get a short hose, but what can I get to mount it onto the fixtures? Thanks.pool 2.jpgpool0.jpg

Most people just hold it in place and it has such flow that any air that escapes doesn't matter.

I did mine solo and needed to be on both ends so I attached mine with several wraps of duct tape.

It’s kinda like a shop vac with a plastic slip fitting. You could probably adapt it to replace that rubber plug pretty easily.

The pictures below are of my Jandy pump lid, but you can apply this to any pump. Of course, you will need to buy a spare lid... You connect your cyclone, set the filter multiport valve in recirculation position and, with Jandy valves, select a pipe for blowing.

I just used my cyclone for the 1st time yesterday. It was awesome. This year is break even and from now on it's just effort and no more $450 closing bills. I have a 1.5" fitting on my equipment so I connected the cyclone to that. Note that you'll likely need an adjustable clamp (worm clamp) to keep the hose on the cyclone. I guess since both were new the hose could slip off the cyclone. Is it threaded where the expansion plug is? If not the pump lid is a good option or you can just glue in a 1.5" tapered piece of PVC (what you'll get with the cyclone but sized for the hole without the threads).

I'm a little late to the party here, but I use my spa blower. More volume and pressure than a shop vac, so I can get the main drain line blown down. Figured I might was well get some use out of it, since nobody really likes the bubbles it makes in the spa.

I reblew (a new word I think) the returns and watched as a ton of water came forcefully out. Sure its rough to spend $400 to use it for 10 minutes a year, but way cheaper than replacing the pipes after a solid freeze.
It’s a handy tool to have for drying out wet carpet or spilled water in the garage as well.

I asked the company installing my new safety cover if they did the closing also.

The closing was seperate and was over seven hundred bucks. I didn't hear how much over it was because I vomited a little at 'seven hun' and missed the rest, not that it mattered. :ROFLMAO:

You could buy 2 cyclones a year and still break even.
