I've been a devotee of TFP method for over 10 years, and convinced my neighbor 3-4 years ago. But, he gave up on liquid chlorine and muriatic acid, went back to using pucks. Surprise, pool overwhelmed with algae, CYA level, per Leslies (???) was over 125. He hired a "pool service" which advised him to drain the pool, and refill. The pool service told him he would service the pool weekly, using "high quality chlorine not available at big box stores", and 1 puck.

I'm curious about what material this pool service will use for sanitizing, or that any of them use, allowing them to treat just once a week?

12.5% sodium hypochlorite. Nothing different, just a bit higher concentration, than the Walmart stuff.

He will have sky high FC after their weekly visit, and way too low of FC just before they come the next week.

Or they'll do the tried and true method of: chlorine tabs during the week and then a big hit of CalHypo "shock" during their cleaning.

There is no source of chlorine available to professionals that you cannot find in stores, except chlorine gas and I really doubt they're driving trucks of that stuff around residential neighborhoods in your area.

They may get special "for professionals only" brands, but if you read the labels it's all the same as what's readily available to consumers.

Thanks for the info. I told my neighbor to let me know after the treatment, and I would come over with my test kit. Sadly, the pool is rarely used, despite a huge, costly remodel a few years ago. His goal in having this expensive pool service is for the pool to require no input or work from him between visits from the pool guy. His yard is guarded by a row of oak trees, and a huge pine 15' from the pool. The good part is that it is not in full sun, like mine is, so chlorine loss may not be so dramatic.

My build GC who owned his own store for 30 years before becoming a GC for another store as a retirement side gig said their liquid pool shock was 99%. He never in all those years read the label that said 12.5%

He thought it was super duper extra strength, but no. :ROFLMAO:

It will work for what he wants until it doesn't, then the service will charge him to 'fix' what they caused. Then repeat.

SWCG is an interesting idea. Don't know if he ever thought about it. He's not too tech savvy, and if it involves routine input from him, and tweaking, he would not be interested.

A commercial pool service can maintain a SWCG a lot better than a puck/shock pool.
