What did you do to your pool today?

Storms in Tucson = rains & wind = TONS of leaf litter in the pool = vacuuming for me

I looked at the pool, covered in snow. Noticed some animal tracks going across one corner of the cover. Followed them to the edge of the concrete apron and have now concluded that I have a rabbit (or more likely rabbits) living underneath the concrete. They've dug out a den but it is pretty far from the pool and not likely anywhere near where plumbing would be running to the pool.

Now to figure out how to get them out of there. Obviously, using poison is objectionable because I'd rather not kill them if I don't have to and if they died under the concrete (likely) that would leave a stink for quite some time. Might have to wait until spring when I can attempt to seal up the hole with a wire mesh...

Temps in the 60s today in South Jersey, so I opened the auto cover and scooped out a half dozen dead worms and a few leaves on the bottom. Then my wife and I played with the RC boats we got for Christmas. It's even possible to have fun with the pool in the dead of winter!

Cool, more winter use of the pool than some us are getting.

Let's see a pic of those boats you found!

Smelled my first sniff of chloramines, albeit very minimal. Barely detected it while pulling a rashie out of the skimmer along with a bunch of grass! Kids get some very weird and wonderful thoughts!!

What is a rashie?

haha, Aussie slang at work! It's a swimming shirt, used by kids to avoid putting on sun-block. The name comes from surfing, worn because of the sand stuck in the wax on a surfboard which gives you a rash on a bare stomach and chest. Definitely adds to friction loss!

I finally got to the point that I needed to add some chlorine. Been 3 weeks since I had to add any.
I checked the pH too and its fine. Then I scooped out half a dozen or so small leaves and emptied the skimmer.

And of course I look at it all the time!

So many pools sitting there with nothing being done to them. Just adding water and acid here mostly. Once in a while I'll hope I need some chlorine, just for something extra to see about.

Patrick,

I'm only a couple of states east of you and I'm taking water out, about 4" in the last 4 weeks. This is supposed to be the dry season over here! I'm pretty new to all this pool stuff so I'm mostly making mistakes - ran the spa dry yesterday because I turned a valve the wrong way. Just happened to hear this loud sucking sound. Sort of reminded me of the IRS at tax time. Solar heat is now keeping the pool 86-87 during the day so I'm swimming almost every night again.

Chris
