What did you do to your pool today?

Thanks for showing us lelandapple, do you have a rebuild thread running on here somewhere?

Believe or not, all we have been doing is swimming in our pool. Really going through the Bleach now though. Getting some nice weather, so hopefully it holds.

Pool remodel has begun - Progress Pics

Here is my pool build link. The pool builders have called in sick for 2 days. It's a small company so I'm guessing being one man down must really delay progress. They said they should be done by tomorrow. So we shall see.

Hi everyone! I just got back from middle school church camp and before that a week of CRAZINESS the last week of school. Checked the Chems today. That heat sure makes a difference on FC (plus being gone) bFC was 1 - bumped up the SWG and also set it to super chlorinate to get the FC back up. Added MA to bring down Ph And CYA. Brushed, cleaned skimmers, etc
Like others have said. I'm so shocked at how warm the water already is!

Swam for a half hour early in the morning.
Vacuumed and tested.
Quart of bleach and a dash of MA and we were perfection.
Another warm day over 95, so I'm glad to have got it out the way early.
I think another dip this evening could be on the cards.

Yippee-> water rehab exercises with some weights, noodles and such; then a swim for pleasure
Skippee-> Chi Gong (a form of Tai Chi) exercises; then bobbing up and down a bit *'cause he don't float so good*

Our daily ritual these days as soon as Skippy gets home from work.

So we have a cheap intex 16x46 while we decide on both a permanent above ground and if we are moving or not. I found a forum for them and am on my second year of no worries pool maintanace. I use the shock the forum recommended (pool brands quick dissolving stabilized ) and chlorine tablets. It just kind of works out okay that way. Took the cover off this may and the bottom was covered with algae. Added four gallons of bleach and let nature take its course. Crystal clear in three days and pH balanced in four.

I'm about to go dive into it. Then I will test my CYA since it's been a little over a week since it finished dissolving. Wonder if I need to be doing some more sock squeezing. I'm betting that I need to add one more time after all that rain. My guess is 15 ppm.

My wife looked at the pool out the window this morning and said wow, the pool is so clear! Yep, I'm workin hard to keep that pool clear for you honey. :)

Well, my guess was wrong. CYA is 70, so we're gonna skip the sock squeezin this week.

BUT, when I tested chlorine it was 1.5! I had it up around 15-18 last week when we were out of town for a few days. Turned the swg down this week. But, it was hot and sunny and we swam every day. And I was a slacker and didn't test my chlorine all week because the water was perfecto and clear and all that. Not!

So now I have (had) about 12 little algae spots around. Some on the sun shelf and some on the mortar in the waterfall at the waterline. Bright green algae! Dang it! Cranked the SWG up to super duper and put 4 gal of bleach, it's all I had. Brushed the heck out of the whole pool, algae spots several times. Took the light out because that has been where everyone's algae has been this month and it has never been out. Not much in there, a little slimy and a little debris. Nothing active and it's all stainless steel and the niche is plastic, nothing seems to stick to it. Also, had some algae in the pool cleaner. It is banished.

Then I had to do a bunch of kid stuff. We'll see what's happening in the morning after 4 gal (only 16ppm) and super chlorinate swg for 24 hours does for us. Hopefully, I won't have to go get a dozen bottles of bleach tomorrow and do my first real SLAM.

I think I finished up my first slam this morning. A week and a half ago it started to get cloudy, I dumped some rural king liquid chlorine in and thought I had it knocked out. A couple days later it was a little cloudy again. I decided it was time to do a real slam that I've read about dozens of times on here. I went and got 5 cases after my wife had already got 2 cases from rural king. Brushed everything really good yesterday. Finally got it to hold last night. FC was 31 at 6:20 last night, and 30 at 10:20. Tested it at 6:00 this morning and FC was 31 or 31.5. I'm assuming it was testing variability in sample size. Not sure. I'm gonna run the OCLT again tonight. I got some skimmer socks the day before yesterday. Those things are awesome! The pool was clear, but I could see the dead algae being caught in the socks. I'm gonna see how they look tonight and may have to bump the FC back up a little for tonight's OCLT. Hopefully this will let me turn my SWG down. I noticed before the slam that I was having to run it a lot more than I thought I should have to. It's rated at 3.1lbs/day and I had it at 100% for 8 hours a day. With the pool free from algae. I should be able to do 8 hours at maybe 75%. I still have 3 cases of bleach left, so anytime there a bunch of people coming over one's gonna go in before the party, and maybe one afterward.

Today was a rare day, indeed. Home ALONE the entire day! Slept late...brunch...fired up the margarita machine and been pool side all day long! Swept, tested, added, floated, relaxed, napped...all in/on the water.

:sun:

I can relate (except the drinks). I spent 4 hours floating and baking. I don't use sunscreen at this point...I work outside. I do keep from burning so I have a sweet tan.

...and had the music cranking.

...then a nice workout of squats and deadlifts...then A LOT of good food. Must. Sleep. Now.

BoDarville, do you bump up your FC just before the party too ??

I vacuumed last night and my telescopic pole broke in half. It was quite surprising but it's pretty old. After some thought I took the middle broken piece into the garage and tried to remove the plastic compression fitting from the end by collapsing the pole with a screwdriver and hammer. No luck, that sucker is really tight. Ended up using a torch to heat the tube and managed to work the part off and then pounded it gently onto the broken end. Lost about 2' but I can finish vacuuming this morning.
Now I need to start looking for a replacement.
